Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
It's not often you here of problems from the sleepy south, but some towrags keep nicking keys from garage keydrops, running off with the cars, emptying the contents and returning them as if nothing had happened. What they don't realise that it is now loosing us custom, well let's face it, who wants to go back to a garage where your car is nicked!! It's hard enough trying to survive without these towrags!!! But hey-ho, I suppose we are the lucky ones as they are returning the cars, we have heard of another garage where they havn't been so lucky.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
Not wanting to be flippant - don't use key drop off, use a more secure way of receiving customer's keys?

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
After 26 years with no problem, £2000 of cctv equipment now installed, notices stating that cars left at owner's risk, a large notice telling our customers NOT to put their keys through our letter box, right next to the letterbox, and they still do, it's a problem.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
Key drop off??? What's that??? A garage that I some times use has always asked me to put the keys on top of the passenger rear wheel.
Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
My last car a Kia Sorento, the main dealer picked the car up from home and returned it after each service - now that's service for you.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
Someone has to pay for that collection and delivery service though Martin, and that's probably you,and they probably charge £90 - £100 per hour and we charge £50. BMW's are the best, the ladies get a bunch of flowers if you spend over £1000. TRUST,that's the big word, and we've built up 26 years of it, and it only takes a few scumbags to wreck it................................I'll climb off me soapbox now.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
But someone had to be there to hand over the keys so that they could drive it to the garage? We do offer a local collection service, but when someone wants the car all weekend and then has to work on the Monday it can sometimes be a bit of a problem where to leave keys. Hence the need for a key drop at many garages. We are within walking distance from the station so for those who wanted to leave at the crack of dawn on their commutor trip it WAS an easy option to just drop the keys through the leter box,but not any more sad to say.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
Chris, I agree with you. The theiving little bastards should be birched.
Martin, it's all well and good you spouting the praises of the dealer collection service but YOU ARE charged for the privilege, whether you use it or not. It is not done free of charge.
This is one of the reasons an independant is cheaper than main dealer.
Back to your issue with the theiving scum bags Chris. Is it possible to install a slidey draw thing like you get in the petrol stations when you have to pay from the outside? Put that in a brick wall and the buggers shouldn't be able to get at the keys.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
Cheers Chas,we have looked into the pucker key drop thing but unfortunately because of the thickness of our walls they don't make one big enough,so I think a facrication is the answer incorporating a sharp 10" blade to cut the theiving little buggers hands off!! A bit drastic I know, but they wouldn't do it again!! No,seriously,we have it in hand and hopefully we will be able to continue with a key drop,in the end it's going to cost us about £3,000 to sort it out which could have gone to buying more tech equipment, but hey-ho you have to move with the times. I remember when I worked on Securicor they had more attacks and roberies during times of depression, and I suppose we are in one now.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
This is my last say on this thread as its getting silly:
a) If I decide to spend my hard earned dosh on a new moter (be it Korean or any other) thats up to me so there :p
b) And if I decide to use the main dealer to service it that is also up to me :0)
c) If it breaks down its their fault not mine, I cannot afford to be off work - maybe you can ?
d) If I lived down south I would definitely use Mr Westgits garage as I have always found him to be an honest chappie, salt of the earth type.
d) My take on BB guns and any other guns for that matter is that they should all be gathered up and destroyed.
Take care all.

Re: Scumbags Are Making our life Hell
Thanks Martin,I am afraid our collection service doesn't run up to your neck of the woods(non profitable you know),but if we did I'd be more than pleased to pick your car up,no drop offs at the moment though,we have a little problem.........................
CCTV Fitted.
Stage 2 has now been installed - blinds at the front doors so that the little blighters can't see in.
Key drop safe arriving Wednesday.
All this for 2 little P--cks,who can't keep their grubby little mits off something that doesn't belong to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As my father used to say "Keys are to keep out honest men" .At least we are keeping other industries going I suppose,Martin can spend his hard earned cash on a shiney new motor,we'll spend ours on security equipment.

Oh Martin, you've left your soapbox in the middle of this thread and I nearly tripped over it.
Did you want it back?
