Hi Scampers,
I am a new old member. Already managed to make my first forum bo bo!
Looking for a SCAMP should have gone in the Sales and Wanted rather than the Events Section; although getting another Scamp would be a bit of an Event I guess!

I was a member of the SOC about 10 years ago and quite active "down South".
I have owned 3 or 4 Scamps previously.
My first was a Mk2 with working Gullwing Doors, the second and probably the most well known was a six-wheeled SWB Mk3 of which I believe only two were made.
My last Scamp was a dark blue SWB Mk3 originally made for Andy Mac's sister.

Greetings to my "old" friends Andy, Chris W, and John S and anyone else who may remember me. I was the SE rep for a couple of years to give Chris W a break, best regards RG, aka NG Guy. Sorry about my bad with the wanted post!

First Post put in Wrong Place Empty Feeling alot older

Post  NG Guy Sat Oct 05, 2013 12:24 am

Having a bit of trouble trying to sus-out who is who at the moment, so forgive me for not using your name.

Old age definitely catching up with me; so thought a bit of Scamp goodness or should that be Madness was required!

Looking at some very old Scamp Photo's the other day Can't believe that the little girls riding in the back of John's and Martins Scamps now have children as old as they were in the pictures - I now have Three Grandchildren!

Best regards to all those Scampers who remember me (Rob/Bob G aka NG Guy).

First Post put in Wrong Place Empty Thanks Reg and Zed

Post  NG Guy Sat Oct 05, 2013 1:30 pm

Hi Zed and Reg,

I am glad that Reg has someone to keep an eye on him.
Nice to meet you Zed very interested in your Hobbies, many, many, moons ago I was Weapons Electrical Artificer in the RN, maintaining Ship-bourne missile and gunnery systems.

Reg, on a much lighter note I think I saw a picture of me and my two daughters on one of the old "group photo's" I am wearing Black and White chequered shorts and I am near my red Triumph Dolomite, think I had started to build a prototype Mk3 Scamp at the time (preproduction model 04); but due to Front Bulkhead and Brake Cylinder mounting problems I gave up on it and sold it on! Still haven't mastered the art of welding.

My most remembered Scamp would be the Mk3 SWB six-wheeler in air force blue used everyday for work for about 18 months. I was always more interested in going to shows than destruction testing Scamps off-road, though good luck to anyone that wants to!! It takes allsorts!

I hope to see you both at some events next year - I believe its a big year for Mokes, Scamps and Mini's. All the very best RG.

We tend to do more WWII relic retrieval than Scamping at the mo, but the Monster will never be sold. A Scamp is for life, not just Christmas. Laughing

Thanks for a prompt reply Zed,

I would like to know more about the WWII relic retrieval, if it is too off topic for this website I would be happy to receive a "PM" on the subject.

I am glad you have got/built the Scamp of your Dreams; didn't quite find mine with my previous ones; though the SWB 6 Wheeler was close.
If I hadn't lived in an area with so many mini-roundabouts which tended to get through the middle set of tyres every 1K miles it might have been kept for a lot longer.
I would really like a LWB Mk3 (4 wheeled) but not sure if many were built, not worth trying a new build since the advent of SVA/IVA and I am not a fan of the new breed of 4 X 4 Japanese Scamps.
Best Regards RG.

Fascinating stuff,
if you are ever down this way (Kent) I would strongly recommend a visit to the Hawkinge Battle of Britain museum. I organized a visit for the NG Owners Club earlier this year.
It has lots of engines, guns and airframes from Spitfires, Hurricanes and even ME109's and Dornier's as well as an actual V1 "Doodlebug" plus some Hurricane replica's used in the Film "Battle of Britain".

Thanks Again RG

HI, I have a feeling I may have met you when we were down at a camp organised by Chris W near Hastings?
We were on a visit in the cars and had met up in the car park in Hastings for a treasure hunt. We were in the green mk 3 on our picture here.

You mentionned then about a mk 3 that you gave up on. I would be interested to know if it had deeper sides than the eventual mk3 - about the same height as the mk 2.

First Post put in Wrong Place Empty Hastings Meet

Post  NG Guy Sun Oct 06, 2013 10:35 pm

Hi Lin,

This is possible, was the Treasure Hunt on foot? I did go to the Bodiam Event a couple of times and have known Chris for many years.
I used to live in Chatham, then moved to Burgess Hill on the East/West Sussex border; did have a short spell at being the Southern Rep for the SOC.

I wasn't aware that the production Mk3 had smaller (lower) sides than the Mk2.
I only have a couple of (not very good) pictures of the prototype frame and it looks about the same as the production Mk3. I think the Cab Kit doors were a bit larger than the production model.
This Scamp was sold on to a club member who had many problems in getting it to his liking and getting on the road.

The thing that really made this vehicle standout was the old Fiat Panda like look at the rear; a simpler version of the first (PROTYPE) SWB Mk3 not so many compound angles as that first Mk3. I hope this helps and that we meet up again soon.
I hope to be at the Detling Kit Car Show in either a Scamp or if not in my NG TA. Regards RG.

First Post put in Wrong Place Empty GREETINGS from another Southerner

Post  NG Guy Mon Oct 07, 2013 8:25 pm

Hi Adam,
Used to live in that part of the world myself about 25 years ago in the Walderslade area.
Bought my first Scamp (green gullwing Mk2) whilst there from a guy in Crawley; then went to the Ottershaw Scamp Picnic the same day - haven't been able to beat that timing since.

Hope to go to the Detling Kit Car Show next April - might see you then!

Happy Scamping RG.

First Post put in Wrong Place Empty Deeper Sides on Pre-production Mk3

Post  NG Guy Mon Oct 21, 2013 10:34 am

Hi Lin and Tony,

This has been bugging me on and off since your post; so had a look at the Scamp Motor Co site, I think it was the GT3/GT3R that had the much deeper sides.

Although my 04 prototype had GT3 like suspension the sides were "standard" SWB Mk3.
Have a look at the Pink Grass Tracker pictures; (Bodiam 1994) I think this Scamp is owned by OSR now!

Best regards NG Guy - hope you can make the SE Meet in March at the Woodman near Sevenoaks!
