Aren't slogans on plates not allowed now? Classed as show plates? Double check or you might end up with a fine!

Re: plates... galant
Slogans on the plates themselves might be questionable (does that include the manufacturer's name?) but if the plates themselves are fully compliant, slogans on the surround are OK.

its outside the bordsr, and the plates comply with dvla rules
(from what i get)
and they do say mitsubishi motors on them...
will always have the old ones --- well, the back 1 ne way. if there is a prob (hoping there isnt)
Daisy has passed lest 2 mot's with "nic-nic's mk3 mini scamp" on her plates.

Re: plates... galant
Not sure they would fail an MOT but if Mr Plod decided they weren't fit for purpose then they can give you an on the spot fine. Plus, they were talking about bringing in points on licences too. They've been known to sit and wait for minis coming out of big shows before and pulling everybody with 'different' plates.
Keep an old set in the car 'just in case'.

Re: plates... galant
Minislapper, we don't have "on the spot fines" in this country. Fines are the business of the courts, not the cops.

Re: plates... galant
Yes I do know of people who have been fined for illegal plates whether that was on the spot or whatever it has happened. And there is still talk of points on licences. Will shut up now. Only trying to be helpful :-/

Re: plates... galant
From the Home Office Website
If you’ve committed a minor traffic offence, like not wearing a seatbelt or driving with a broken headlight, the police may issue you with a one-off fine called a fixed penalty notice. Non-endorsable offences - meaning those which don’t result in points on your licence - usually incur a fine of £30. Fines for endorsable offences like speeding are usually £60, although there may be some exceptions. More serious offences such as driving without insurance can incur fines of up to £200.
Police do not have the power to make you pay fines on the spot.
If you feel a penalty notice is unjust, you can choose not to pay the fine and argue your case in court. If you do pay the fine, you won’t be prosecuted and no record of your offence will be kept. Recipients have 28 days to pay the fixed penalty or request a hearing otherwise the fine will increase by 50%. You’ll be reported for prosecution if you fail to pay a fixed penalty for an offence detected by an automatic camera within 28 days.
I say don't give plod any excuse - its expensive enough as its is and its going to get worse with the expected increase in fuel !!!!!

And completely agree, no point giving them cause to take more hard earned.....

Re: plates... galant
Good choice Nic, the slogan you've chosen for the rear of your Galant is also on the back of 'Pea'.
I still think the best slogan I've had (on my Black 306 D-Turbo) was 'Sex - The breakfast of champions'

Re: plates... galant
what r the laws on all of this--- spent ages looking and cant understand a word of what the dvla say...
the plate is legal letters, spacing etc, a border (thin black line- which my present 1s have- i think), just a tiny bit of txt under and mitsi motors symbol on the side.
daisy has almost identical but replace mitsi motors badge with a pretty union flag thing.
taz has the same with taz pic on side.
rnt things like plates b picked up by mot centres or atleast put on the list of things to note? and have never had prob with taz or daisy and they have had them on for last few years.
(and if u saw the state of my front plate at the moment--- the new 1s r atleast in 1 piece---dont ask--- just b glad paj's tow bar same height as my number plate)
if there is a prob, will just get a cheep set made up...

Re: plates... galant
FWIW, this page gives a good overview of number plate regulations. However it's not fully comprehensive, it doesn't mention two and three row plates for example, and although it says "there is no specified legal size for a number plate", the regs do in fact give minimum sizes.
This one on the other hand tells you what will fail the MoT. Plate size, colour and reflectivity, while specified in the regs, don't seem to be included in the list.

I knew it was an old one James, I just couldn't remember where else I'd seen it!
I'm not sure the Galant's quite fast enough to bear the slogan though...

Re: plates... galant

(it is the sport model--- it has an extra bit of plastic under the front bumper)=== pointless!!!
