Chris W re-did the photo along with Andrew Maclean and John last year and published the article in the Scamp Mag.
Don't ask me which one.

I remember reading that he wanted to re-do the picture, perhaps it was in an issue before I joined as I don't remember seeing it.

I think it's the right church, missing a few trees but the gate looks the same style.

Sorry, but with house hunting, Scamp events and clearing 39 years of collective clutter, time has been limited. But the picture was taken outside St. Peter and St. Paul's Church in Chalden in Surrey and appeared as a 2 page spread in February 1971 Custom Car Magazine. We re-enacted the shot in late August in 2011 (over 40 years after the original) and it appeared in September edition of Complete Kit Car Magazine. I had a bit of a task in finding the Church as it was no where near Ottershaw where the Scamp was built, and found it by Googling Churches in Surrey, I eventually found a pencil drawing on a letter head of the Surrey Churches, so I put a picture search out and eventually found it, and I eventually made contact with the Vicar. Apparently the location was chosen by the article editor and we don't know who the original choir boys are. In the second article we re - enacted the big picture outside the church and a smaller black and white one which was in the 1971 article. The choir boys in the second article were myself, Andrew Mclean and John Halliday and the cassocks were supplied by Andrew himself who's father was a Vicar. The Scamp itself is (we believe) to be the 3rd demonstrator of the Miller/Mandry Scamp empire, and if you are a Mini enthusiast and have a copy of Philby's book of the Mini you will see Robert Mandry flying through the air in a Mini with the door wide open.........and that's another story!!!

Thanks for telling the story Chris. I really did get lucky as I was looking for similar style spires, tried around reading, then over towards Woking.

I remember the picture in Peter Filbys book and had to grab it off the shelf for a look, it's lucky there were ever Scamps as it looked a fairly major incident.

O.k., the story of Robert Mandry's flying Mini in Philby's book.............Roberts mates did a lot of Rally crossing and as Robert was an only son his mother forbid him to go racing with his mates,as she did not want to loose, or have maimed, her precious son. So, without Mum knowing, Robert went racing until that day he had his accident, the photograph then appeared in a national newspaper.............and his Mother found out the hard way!!
