Re: Newark Kit Car Show
It is very sad about Newark kit-car show. Many of you remember the good times we all had there in the past,
The Scamp club enjoyed taking part in all the games, we all had a good laugh and we did do well in the knock out. Tug of war, the slippery log and so on...But the last few year it did go down hill on the gate attendance, and lack of clubs attending, or is it the sign of the times. Maybe it might be you can't build a kit-car like the old days that you buy the basic kit for a grand then pop down the local scrapyard to buy the running gear, engine and gearbox for a few hundred pounds. get it MOT and off you go..Things like the SVA didn't help the kit-car scene...

There will be no Newark Kit Car Show in 2014
Kevin and Lesley Musson, aka, Newark Promotions are sad to report that Newark 2013 was the last in a long line of Newark Kit Car Shows.
For many reasons and only after long deliberation, we have come to the conclusion that it is no longer possible to sustain the show without unacceptable financial risk. As well as the unfavourable economic climate, in the last six years we have experienced and recorded the wettest, the coldest and the windiest events in all of the 31 years. We have had an unlucky run and there is no doubt that the climate in the UK has changed. This along with other factors has resulted in the decline in attendances. This has also occurred at a time when the costs for putting on such a show have increased dramatically.
The fact that the Newark Showground made the huge error of allocating the wrong weekend for our show in 2014, meaning the event would clash once again with the Le Mans 24hr race, was the final straw.
Sadly, the industry has now lost one of its flagship shows. All that remains now is for us to thank everyone that has helped along the way. This has to start with Alec and Hilary Trueman, our original partners. Without Alec, we doubt that the show would have ever got off the ground. Also, we must thank Peter Filby, whom we managed to convince that our idea would be a success. We even borrowed the title of his magazine "Alternative Cars" for the original show title. We must thank "the mob", our team of willing volunteers and friends that proudly formed our staff for the weekend and without whom we could not open the gates to the visitors. There are many institutions and past sponsors who deserve thanks, they know who they are. Then there are the exhibitors. We include the manufacturers, trade stands, autojumblers, craftsmen and women, and modellers. Last, but certainly not least, the kit car clubs and their members. Thank you. There are so many great memories and most of all, it was fun. We are pleased to have made many lifelong friends through this venture.
Newark Promotions would like to thank all of our customers and partners for their valued support and wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year.

Re: Newark Kit Car Show
Whilst looking for the answer last night I went onto a forum which was asking the same question.
They were also saying that the Exeter Show had been cancelled to be replaced by one at the Malvern Show ground in October.
So its not just Newark, its all over the country.

Kit Car Shows 2014
At the moment at least the shows organized by "Grosvenor Shows" appear to be going ahead. This means that to date The Detling and Stoneleigh Shows appear to be going ahead.
As previously mentioned, the Detling Show has been brought forward to last w/e in March (usually about mid-April). Stoneliegh appears to have kept its early May Bank Holiday slot.
So maybe not all "Doom and Gloom" on the kit car show front
Best regards to all Scampers!

Re: Newark Kit Car Show
The end of Kit Car shows as we know it? Would that mean we'd have to attend Mini shows instead? Now that's a depressing thought.
Car Shows in 2014
Hi Scampers!
Maybe a broadening of horizons to combined Kit Car and Classic Car Shows is the answer.
My favorite show of this nature is the Ardingly Vintage and Classic Vehicle Show near Turners Hill/Crawley which is also very near to the current home of the Scamp and the "birthplace" of the newer 4x4 based Scamps, plus of course the Rowfant.
Happy Scamping!

Talk About Being a Jinx!
Jinxed!!!
Watch this space! It looks like the Detling Kit Car Show 2014 may have gone the same way as Newark, on the provisional date there is now a "Quilt Festival !!!!"
Followed by a Heritage Transport Show the following weekend (the usual date for the kit car show).
However Stoneleigh Show still on early May Bank Holiday as usual - hopefully!
I will keep a look-out for more info and see if there is a statement from the organisers.

Re: Newark Kit Car Show
If you look at the website for Stoneleigh there is a link for other Kit Car shows and Detling has not been given a link, which,I think, means that it is also cancelled and the fact that there is nothing on the Detling showground wesite either. I think that Grosvenor Promotions share the smaller kit car shows with the Quilting Show, which helps to fill the site up,but,as yet,no link to any kit car show Daan Saaf!

Kit Car Show Daan Saaf
Have just checked the Grosvenor Promotions site to see if there is a connection to the "Spring Quilting Festival/Kit Car Show" and it now states the Quilt Show has been cancelled "due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control".
Therefore must conclude The Detling Kit and Specialist Car Show is dead in the water/no longer going to happen as feared!
All the more reason to support the IMM I would think - Happy Scamping!! NG Guy.
PS if anyone can lend me a (spare) Scamp (or has a spare seat in one for the IMM Mini 55 day) please send me a PM/MP Thanks RG.

Detling Kit Car Show 2014
Hi there, for scampers daan saaf!
Since my last post, I have spoken (via email) to Lucy Hagerty Showground Manager at Detling. I can confirm that there WILL NOT be a Kit Car Show at Detling in Spring or Summer of 2014.
As this is the case they will now allow a small number of kit cars as exhibitors at the Heritage Transport Show on Saturday April 5th.
This is a ONE day show, mainly for buses and commercial vehicles, plus some pre-1980's classic cars.
I don't think there is going to be overnight camping, there is "a lock-in" must be on Showground by 9:30 and not allowed to leave before 16:00, they mainly want kits with donor vehicles pre 1980; so if your Scamp is classic mini or early metro based and you are still interested please MP/PM me for further details, thanks RG.
