Fuel Tank Location ?
Hi just a quick one concerning my Mk3 and its fuel tank position?
Looking at your other mk3s ive noticed most are sited at the rear, but most mk3,s have the angled rear end.
Ive got the tailgated rear but have removed the tailgate, whilst it did have a mini van tank (now sold sorry) there is no room anymore and so i will have one made.
There will be room for storage, tools etc + a guide book of (How to keep a 2wd scamp on the road in the snow)
I wont need a rear seat but wondered what you think, behind the seats or at the rear?

Re: Fuel Tank Location ?
Hi Rob,
I'm relocating the fuel tank in my GT3 to inside the cabin between the rear wheels where the spare wheel bracket was behind the front seats. This is because the tank which came with the car is knackered (from an Austin Devon rather then Mini Van according to Andrew Maclean), we've got a spare s/steel tank that fits in the space perfectly and it should improve the weight distribution by having the weight of the fuel between the rear wheels rather then overhang the end. Going to fabricate a storage locker in the space at the rear.

Re: Fuel Tank Location ?
I would have thought that considering how light the Mk3 is at the rear end having the fuel tank aft of the wheels would have been a bonus, especially if your going to tow anything with your Scamp.
My tank is the wedge shaped one and still leaves about 4" on top to store lots of useful rubish
Mind you the wedge shaped ones only hold about 6 galls, so if you are thinking of fitting a larger tank then fitting a larger one could be a prob.

Re: Fuel Tank Location ?
We've just bought a Spitfire tank for my Scamp - and will be fitting it in the back - the same as Taz and Daisy. The spitfire tank fits very nicely between the wheel arches

Re: Fuel Tank Location ?
The old trusty Ford Escort tank was another favorite,in my Mk2 I hid it under the back seat.

Yes but im not too sure as im picking up Brians GT up on Sunday,
But in stock is my other Mk3 which was lwb now swb. LWB 3/4 soft top availiable ?
Mk3 Rob may cause confusion, Ex 4x4 now Mk3 & GT Rob ?
(it may not get finnished Rob) James would agree to that, Lol.
Would you take on the roll of Mk4 x4 Mike? Prototype Mike?
If i dont change it i will see you at Stourport hopefully with a working GT.
