Post  m3prq Sat Apr 18, 2009 8:40 pm

I have used in the past hammerite smooth and Hammerite Hammered and even painted
Rubber Carlife on my past Scamp mk2.(looked like a rubber torch at night Rolling Eyes )
I once painted a fiat campervan with a brush on paint I bought from Halfords.
My question is this .Can anyone please remember the name of the paint makers of Halfords brush on paint
that when dry was semi-gloss more a mat made around 1978-1979.Ian

Post  nhazelwood Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:29 pm

Hi,

I've just bought some Craftmaster Coach Enamel paint to try on walle. Craftmaster Website

Its used on canal barges & steam engines & highly decorative old restoration projects.

It's flipping expensive i know that for a fact, 1litre white undercoat + 1 litre Coach enamel + 1" long bristle brush = no change out of £70 !!!!

Supposed to be very hard enamel & self levelling. Only bit i've tried it on at the moment is walle's new dashboard (loads of curves) & it looks poo... probably just my painting tho' (got a trapped nerve in both of my shoulders, so my hands are not exactly very steady !!) Hmm, might have to visit Poundland to get some cheap rollers & try them.

Might get round to painting walle's tailgate tmrw, will let you know how it goes.

Brush on Paint Empty Thanks

Post  m3prq Sat Apr 18, 2009 11:56 pm

Neil & John thanks for your replies on brush on paint....
I have heard about the paint you have to warm up first,I have not tried it.

John I forgot I once used International Barge paint and coating that was not cheap also.

The paint I bought from halfords that I was talking about turned out great,
with no brush marks at all and the fiat camper had a lot of metal to cover.
I wish I could remember what it was called.I would do my mk3 in that paint,
if I could still buy it.Ian

Back in 1989/1990 I bought some of that in bright orange for my Spitty, it looked.............. well, it rhymes with spitty! So I paid to have it sprayed professionally, cerise pink! Laughing

Hammerite crackle and smooth - someone mentioned Poundland - all good Scampers visit Poundland on a regular basis - none of yer Snap-On tools for us oh know - Black Spur and Draper are the ones for us anyway some time back they had small tins of Hammerite for the usual pound and the 250mm tins in Halfords I think are around 5 quid so I bought them all - I think there were 14 Navy Blue in smooth and hammer finish ideal for painting Florence's sub frames which I did and they are still haniging up in the garage waiting for the machanical fairies to fit them in the re-built chassis one day when I return from my middle east expedition What a Face

Cannon's Repaint. Got bought up by Hammerite in the mid '90's I believe. In my student days we painted a grotty Mini black with the stuff, thinned with 4 star (we were skint) outside our rented house in Hove. The landlady nearly evicted us, as we left a Mini shaped black stain on the road! We also painted a Union Jack on the roof. It looked great! I also painted a Riley 4/72 red with Cannons, and people thought it was 2 pack...obviously not very clever people...
As long as it was thinned enough and you did it in sweeping strokes, it always looked OK. Perfect for a Scamp, if you can find any!

Umm, The BS NATO Green and Matt Black paint that I bought from the place at Alrewas on the A38 (the name escapes me) dried in about 15 minutes and stuck like sh!t to a shirt tail! In fact it dried as you were brushing it on and I had to add thinners to it as i went along.

I never had a problem with the stuff I used but the paint you've bought may need a hardener adding to allow it to go off.

Or maybe you've been had! pale
