Start of project......erm....snappy title.
Hi went and picked up my new scamp from bradford yesterday.
Had been sat outside beside a go-karting track for 3 years.
The rear was full of blown go-kart tyres, a couple of barriers scrap wood....you name it it was in there.
cleared it all out and found the following useful bits:
x2 proper scamp fuel tanks the little ones that fit in the sides?
It has 13 inch wheels all round (rover alloys) plus a spare but i think the radius arms are 10 inch hence the miniscule gap between the tyre and the radius mounting at the front.......gonna change them i think!
x2 front seats...not mini i dont think but similar...may keep them dunno yet.
A fold down bench seat...would that have been used??? i personally think its been dumped in it but i kept it anyway.
The ancillaries for 1.5 engines x2 dizzy's 1 alternator x2 fuel pumps etc etc.
A metro dash (full of water ) various scraps of loom, and a crackle painted centre console with smiths oil pressure gauge.
Got two large grease buckets full of nuts bolts mountings etc so ill have to go through them too at some point.
anyway its now tucked up in the barn with my clubman so at least its out of the weather for now!
Also got lots of receipts and a couple of promotional booklets.
And some booklets....ill think ill just use these as hamster bedding !
Oh well ill update once i start doing something with it!
ps the logbook says its chassis number is 20294....sound about right?

Oh I dunno. They'll make nice bedtime reading for the hamsters, who as Scamp enthusiasts would make useful assistants - they could get to the unreachable bits!
ANORAK ALERT The mags are from 2002-3 (the first, incidentally, to feature colour pix), presumably when the car was owned by Ian Connolly.

50HP?
I've used power tools with more power than that!
My dads Plunge Router can break wrists just by looking at it!

Good point, especially if hes going down the forced induction route, eh?
Re: Start of project......erm....snappy title.
just a visual update......first time the scamp has been out of the barn since i bought it......damn i was hoping it would have magically fitted an engine and repaired itself ...
just need to get on with stripping the flaking paint back, re-painting the frame, fitting engine, loom, new brakes all round by the sound of things (the merry rattle of broken springs in the drums when you move it) and im home free!!

Hi there, Its nice to see a Scamp come out of hiding. I am glad to see such a keen person rebuilding one.
I hope everything goes well on the rebuild. Keep us updated on the work. If you are a member are you going to Stourport?
Take care Rick..

little more progress..
A bit more progress have sorted the path the exhaust is going to take and have mocked it up to sort the mounting points....oh have also ot the engine in at last starting to wire that back in also.
I have also completed the basic dash layout, essentially its a bit of chequerplate bent at rightangles but i have high hopes.

RE:Start of project.....erm....snappy title.
Interesting point James what about a Fur Dash most should remember those!.What about the gear knobs that had a compass in!.Those plastic seat covers you put on your mini seats so they looked like bucket seats!. Can anyone identify the Dash in the pix i thought it was an Austin 1100? Please keep it. Great to watch how far the red line does go,Round twice if i had my way Ttfn. 4x4 Rob.

My Auntie's Viva had one of those speedos as well, It must be an age thing but all of a sudden I'm starting to love Retro cool. Tiger fur seat covers in 'K'? sure thing Baby!
Re: Start of project......erm....snappy title.
However stylish or cool it may be, for practical purposes "thermometer" style speedo's a pain in the [ ]. Checking the speed in my Dad's old 1100 took my eyes off the road for far too long. For taking in a reading at a glance, the angle of a pointer has still to be bettered.
Your (informed) choice, of course.

Re: Start of project......erm....snappy title.
Ive found that i use the revs more than anything once ive got used to a car you only really use the speedo religiously when you come across a speed camera.... but the point is taken on board.

Re: Start of project......erm....snappy title.
I had to train myself to watch the speedo, or at least my speed, religiously. Too many points building up....

Re: Start of project......erm....snappy title.
We tend to know (pretty accurately) how fast we're going, just by how it feels and listening to the engine/exhaust note.
