Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
This week has been a little different as it was half term. I know ******* teachers, short hours and long holidays So, what have I found to do? Well, I only saw two 6ams this week for a start! I had some very calm, restful starts to the day and basically enjoyed being able to do things when I felt like it. I did all the boring stuff - about 25 hours of school work and minimal housework. I read a book, and went shopping - took Dawn once and Mum once. Nothing more exciting but restful!
Yesterday was a lovely day. Weather was warm and Tony had arranged to spend a day working on Taz with a mechanic friend - as much for moral support as anything else. After a bit of a problem with the hi/los (The tool lent to us by Jono wouldn't fit cos they cones had corroded - so used Rob's solution - lump hammer and coal chisel) the engine went back in quite well I think (Thanks to Jono for the loan of a hoist!) It even started easily. A small problem at the end of the day - couldn't get it into gear A quick look at the selector found it to be a little ( ) gunged up with mud and sand from Stourport I think, that had dried and solidified over the winter. Seems to be sorted now.
The evening saw us at our local theatre, where Dawn was in a play. She played the mother of a child who had gone missing. A true story. The play was very emotional and considering the whole cast were 16 and under, they played it incredibly well. Dawn - who has always been able to turn on real tears if ever she has thought it might be to her own advantage - began to cry as she related the story. It really was an amazingly realistic performance. (I know , I know, but i have to be a devoted mother occasionally!) I have to say that others were just as convincing in their roles too.
Tony went off to play squash this am leaving me to prepare food for friends that are coming round this afternoon for tea. He will cook the meat (well I don't eat it!) and I will sort everything else. Suppose I should get on.
Hope others write on here this week!

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
Yes, I know it’s not Sunday… but at the moment I don’t have access to t’internet on a Sunday.. so Monday it is!
My weekend started early as I took Friday off to help fill the potholes in down our "Lane".. "Lane" is a grand title for something that, quite frankly, resembles little more than a farm track. This time of year is a constant battle against water and frost damage… in Summer.. it’s all dust.. Hey-ho. 5 tonnes of scalpings later and you can now drive down without the need to visit the Dentist to have all your fillings replaced..
Saturday started with a bit of a panic at work, so work on the house was delayed until afternoon. Evening was spent wandering around Bewdley, admiring the shear quantity of drinking establishments within walking distance… once our house is habitable again, I may feel it difficult to leave our rented Dollshouse in Bewdley with all it’s conveniences…. Finished off with a curry in the Rajput.. then a short stagger home.
Sunday was spent up at the house, with Jo stripping off all the wallpaper whilst I crawled under the floor to continue removing the pipe-work ready for the new heating system.
Knocked off and was just preparing to lock up and retire to the "Dollshouse" when I heard running water.. Bummer.. I was sure I’d isolated all the internal stop taps.. quick check.. Yup all dry in the house. Outside the sound was louder still… so into the lane and isolate the supply at the mains.. running water sound stops… ergo.. I have a leak in the supply pipe underground.. well it was part of the overall scheme to replace that anyway as it’s lead… just hadn’t planned to do it this early. It’s about a 70-metre trench that I need to dig.. Oh joy!
Just to explain " The Dollshouse" is a short-term rental property in the middle of Bewdley whilst we gut our house for renovation. It’s so called…’cause it really is no bigger than a good sized Dollshouse and I’m constantly belting my noggin on the low beams and doors…on the bright side it was cheap.. and very convenient for the local pubs….

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
Sorry did not have time yesterday evening to type something up Nettie was late signing in and I had a load of washing to hang up cos I was on my honeymoon last week and I am still 4 hours a drift not exactly jet lag but it takes awhile to adjust to losing 4 hours.
So to recap last Sunday popped into the Holiday Inn to drop off Mr. Shelley's birthday present we bought him two years ago which he had promised several times to come up north to collect, then drove to Cumbria to stay at the Applebury Manor Hotel. 4 star "Cloud Nine Experience" nice room, bottle of champagne and bouquet of flowers, jacuzie bath with waterproof tv (I get worried about mixing electricity and water). One of those places you dress smart for dinner 7.30 for 8 we thought sounded right. We sat in the lounge and had a drink waiting for our table, the starters rotated regularly but the main courses stayed the same, veal, 2 types of duck, lamb and 3 fish dishes (distinct lack of beef). Still I like my fish and duck can't remember which night we had what now but our last night we asked for steak and got it - result. Only a couple of complaints the radiator needed bleeding in our room but not that it bothered us as we were on our honeymoon and they could have had proper fresh orange juice at breakfast for what we paid, apart from that our honeymoon was great.
Went to Penrith, Ullswater and Kendel to get some fresh air and walk off the night before meal not to mention the full english breakfast. The honeymoon was over far too quickly and we had some things to sort out before I flew back to Dubai.
Thursday I had two new tyres fitted on the rear of our Sorento by a mobile fitter 145 quid not bad I thought and towed our caravan to Blackburn after lunch for its annual service and popped into Rochdale for a look. Have kept the caravan just in case it all goes belly up in Dubai, it was a bargain last year and a new one costs nearly 11k. I have one week left of my 4 week paid holiday so thinking of coming back in May to Mike's do and going on to Anglesy for the rest of the week in the van. Very tempted to go in the other direction to the Seychelles or the Maldives who knows in the year of financial gloom and doom.
Sorry back to last week Friday back to Blackburn to pick up the van winched it on to paved area at the front of the house, very handy that 2 ton rachet winch I bought years ago and a very long tow strap that I bought off Red Leader.
Saturday came all too soon and with my suitcase all packed my new wife drove me to Manchester Airport Terminal, we embraced and shed a tear or two, said goodbye and she was gone. This was my 4th flight to Dubai (soon have enough airmiles for a free flight) took off nearly on time then the entertainment system had to be rebooted (probably has Vista operating system) no new films this trip bit dissapointing. Did buy a pair of JVC noise cancelleing headphones at duty free a lot better than the cheap ones the airline provide. I wanted chicken for my in flight meal but for the second time sorry sir none left we only have lamb (must book a seat near the front next time). I made sure I got my complimentary JD and a white wine with my lamb. 7 hours passed and with my watch moved on 4 hours we were soon coming into land but no we had to go round again, eventually landed but the plane parked miles away from the terminal building so off the plane and on the bus. Eventually got my suitcase and my 4 bottles of duty free and got a cab and got home at 2am. Sunday up at 6am showered and at work for 7.30am to start a new week.
Won't see Nettie in the flesh now till Easter, have to make do with the webcam and the Internet, there is a speed series racing this weekend at the Dubai Autodrome so might go to that. Temperature in my apartment at 8pm is 24 deg.C and climbing every day soon have to have the expensive ac on full time. In the business paper today - Abu Dhabi held a number plate auction on the 14th and the total was 44 million Dirham (8.3 million quid) the number 8 went for Dh8m, number 77 for Dh4m, 34 for Dh2.65m etc. and Al Tayer Motors (near where my office is) is for the 2nd year running the the No.1 in 2008 for sales of Jaguar cars.
Have a good week and take care, I only have three days to go to the weekend yippeeeeeeee

Not done much to the MESS, billet clutch basket is being modified to fit the primary gear. Made some bushes for the new gear stick, and fitted a GPZ 900 sump (shallower).
Work, work, work!
Repair fence to stop chickens going too far into the woods.
Work, work, work!
Reseeded lawn.
Work, work, work!

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
Another Sunday come around. Back at work this week. Pretty normal week - except two parents evenings which meant even longer days!
On Thursday was very tired so went up to bed at 10pm and straight to sleep Woken up first by Nic texting me to tell us she was going to bed! then by Dawn hammering on our bedroom door telling me I had to move my car! What the ?????? Still half asleep, start to get out of bed and back to the hammering on the door Again Dawn telling me to wake up and move the car - the bungalow next door but two is on fire At this point I begin to wake up. Stumble out of the door and onto the drive in my dressing gown - half the street are by now watching the flames. (My car is parked almost in front of bungalow as I couldn't get on the drive with Tony's van, Daisy, a huge pile of firewood waiting to be cut up and taken down the garden and Taz.) I moved my car and waited for the fire engines to arrive - by this time we were all fairly confident that no one was in the house. It is actually the garage that is in flames, but it is attached to the house. Sadly the Escort cabriolet parked in front of the garage is also alight. Five minutes later, the fire engine arrives and the firefighters leap straight out to work - first checking that no one was inside. Within 20 minutes, the flames have been pretty well extinguished. Lots more work for the fire crew to do though - they then starting taking the tiles off the bungalow to ensure everything was completely out etc. (By now the road is full of vehicles - 2 fire engines, fire investigator, police and ambulance) Escitement over, we returned to bed but I couldn't sleep for ages. The fire engine outside our house was still there for some time with its engine running and it was later joined by the electricity board and the british gas. I have to say, the fire service did a great job. Although only a fairly minor fire, they were wonderful.
So much for our early night
I must say, having had the fire alarm go off at school unexpectedly as well this week (An evacuation of 800 children) I am waiting for the third thing to happen!
Tony spent yesterday working on Taz. Exhaust all in and sealed, gears now all funtional. Getting excited as I could finally see Taz up and running - then Tony came in to tell me a there is a major problem and the engine has to come out again Something to do with a crankshaft seal. (Tony wants to know if there is a way of sorting it without removing the engine again!) Tony is very depressed
Anyway, today we have had a lovely day. Deb, Colin Maisie and Charlie came over for lunch. It was nice to have young children in the house again! Seems a long time since ours were that size.
Nic is coming home tomorrow for a week. Tony has the rest of the week off to sort Taz out - he is threatening to send it to the scrap yard - but I don't think he means it

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
Good week… bad week….. The nature of life as it rolls on.
Insurance company laying “silly beggars” over our break in.. definitely a “bad thing”….. found some problems under the floor of our house… still “bad”… got the nod on a large contract to replace the one we’d had cancelled a while ago… “good thing”…. Strolled into Bewdley town on Friday night and met up with my little Sis and her partner Colin.. who is a plumber, so enjoyed a social beverage ..or two.. and extracted a promise from Colin to cast an eye over my lead pipe replacement project.. which he did on Sunday and pronounced it good-to-go.. marvellous!
Took the orange Mk 3 over to Dave’s and generally put the world-to-right on Saturday morning which was the start of a fairly pleasant day all round.
Saturday night turned into a riotous “night out on the town”. ..funny how we seem to be developing a bit of a pattern here.
Sunday was started off in a leisurely fashion and then up to the house to carry on. Just as we arrived, some friends turned up and the chap is a very keen and experienced driver of plant and machinery....so when he asked “is there anything I can do?”, I cheerfully gave him the keys to the excavator and let him rip…. Whilst I busied myself with some minor jobs. This week, I shall be mostly building up a front sub-frame assembly.. only trouble is deciding which vehicle to build it for.. Scamp… or Blitz….. Decisions, decisions

a belated- my sunday/ the worlds Thursday
Didnt do mush this week-
friends leaving party- hes of back to england, so we had a night out- playing on the wii.
One of my cranes died- not happy- she went down within 12hours. I spent all morning at work crying my eyes out, as did my boss, and a few others had a cry. She was so lovely- but was always up-staged by her brother, we will all miss her so much- she was the one "real--- aka--- parent reared" crane we have.
Its been lovely weather here- tshirt style- which has made a nice change.
I am now sat in the air-port, w8in 4 my flight home- to have a week playing with the scamp, and c-ing my pets. - - - i mean, c-ing family, chris, and pets. - - and scamping- hoping insurance is a-lot lower this year- i doubt it though. I tried to fit James in-to my bag- but he rele isnt hand lugage sized, so we had a hug, and i left him- we can have our reunion wen i get back over here.
I didnt get mugged at the air-port this time- they let me go through without hastle.
Chris had a guys week out- in Lowerstof- i chose not to ask questions- ignorance is bliss- what i dont know- means i dont hurt him!
Soon in a real country
c u all soon

We cracked on with 'K', took Harriet's Charriot up to the pub (I needed a lft back) and got our quiet little village invaded by two shifty looking characters from Nuneaton!

Surely the important question is what colour are you going to paint it?!!Jono wrote: I shall be mostly building up a front sub-frame assembly.. only trouble is deciding which vehicle to build it for..

Oh well its nearly still Sunday....
My Sunday was taken up by very nearly getting the Mk1 running for the first time since 1994. I say "very nearly" as it spluttered a bit! It would appear that my fuel line has gone all solid! Maybe NEXT Sunday. 2 months until Newquay, and I still have to create my magic Scamp trailer yet...

Not really been up to much this week. Went to the pub for a meal on Friday night followed by a blat in the Exige.
Looked after (James & Leanne's) Harriet for a few hours yesterday, she enjoyed seeing the animals at Manor Farm when we did our weekly shop there. After that (in between the usual cooking/cleaning chores) we all took Sten up the woods for his daily run.
Popped up the pub about 6pm for a few (got drunk very quickly) with Leanne & Harriet, and Stan, Dea & Joe.
Haven't got much further with the MESS, because we didn't really want to fiddle with it while the clutch side cover was off. Got the basket back yesterday afternoon, but it's got to go back because it's been assembled with the primary gear back to front!

Today i've been Mostly doing....
Hi folks,
Yesterday got some nice shiny stainless steel bolts for Walle, which my apprentice helped me fit (only cleanish job i can let her do):~
Then did some carefull measuring & it seems like a booster seat is definitley required...
Maisie has been asking all week if she can have a sleep over, usually she decides she wants to home, but yesterday she didn't .
So by the time the munchkin was up, fed, dressed & teeth cleaned, she was ready to go home. Started work on Walle just after 11:00 & spent most of the day shivering & drinking coffee...Got rear radius arms back on & brakes connected up. Shorted out my dodgy wiring trying out the wipers . Finished stage 2 of fitting Walle's rear panel, sealing rubber in but to be removed later when i cut & fit the window . Got the fuel tank in position & nearly held in (3rd position i've tried it) . Got the roof panel almost finished, just the windows to fit when i can afford the makralon & rubbers, but it almost seals !.
Next weeks plans are to get the rear wheels back on & bleed the brakes. If the bits turn up, should have new indicators & headlights to fit...that means new front panel to make .
Take Care folks...
Yesterday got some nice shiny stainless steel bolts for Walle, which my apprentice helped me fit (only cleanish job i can let her do):~

Alison is very patient.....but wasn't best please.......and was a little worried.......wouldn't light the gas fire because of the fumes !
Had to have a drive round .......to burn off some fuel.

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
I know it's not Sunday, but what the heck! Done a bit more to the MESS.......
Clutch fully assembled (gained a badly bruised elbow from smashing it onto the chassis whilst trying to torque the centre nut up to the required 98lbf ft. Maybe I should just stick to woman's work?!)
Gear stick, hand brake, and pax seat fitted.
Cracking on with it again tonight.

hiya,
rather uneventful week- one of our cranes- the wife of the 1 who bit me has laid 2 eggs- bit inconsiderate, as now i have to fend of her hubby to get down and check on her, and she has laid them right in the middle of were we were cutting and tidying. did some prooning of an avary- which resulted in poor eve having to hold a ladder whilst i tried to balance myself on the netting and pull of the branches. then i got to play on a roof- much to the others amusement of me carefully pulling myself across it- praying it didnt break.
A friend is back from st lucia, so have been catching up with them.
I moved rooms- so had to pack up my life and shift it.
i cleaned zazzoo- 4 the 1st time since Christmas- im getting there slowly... did daisys mud from Stourport a few weeks ago. zazzoo needs a lot of tlc- Jersey has had its effect on him- poor baby.
Chris has a baby sister- Emily- she is a few weeks old. She was born the week before i came home , but i havent seen her yet. he addores her.
ok- mabythis week wasnt so un-eventfull.

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
A bit of a busy week in the Jordan household.
Done quite a bit to the ZZR engined Scamp, but it still won't be on the road for a while because I'm having a custom manifold made up, and he can't do it for 4-6 weeks or so.
Been visiting Rich's grandad in the hospice, he got quite tipsy on his Everard's Tiger yesterday!
Got lots of foodstuffs growing: Rhubarb, raspberries, chillies, apples, pears, carrots, leeks, onions, sweetcorn, turnip, pumpkin, radish, and herbs. Planting more chillies, tomatoes, and potatoes today.
Went out for a (birthdays) meal with Stan & Dea last night, and got absolutely trolleyed on only a few glasses of wine. How does that work?
Next week is a busy one as well. More birthdays, a wedding, meeting with the big boss, visit to the National Arboretum, interview/criminal record check (for the work I do with the Royal British Legion), MLOC meet, and the Lotus on Track/Lotus Festival at Donington.
Off into the garage/garden now, drivefastly safely folks,
Elaine&Rich

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
Not done a lot this week except attend a film/talk from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland Air Ambulance on Monday night - Very good.
And went to a christening at Chetwynd barracks yesterday, which was followed by a buffet in the squadron bar. I bought 3 drinks, a can of Fosters, a double vodka, and last but not least............... a bottle of port! The vicar's wife's face was a picture when I came back to the table with it (she was chatting Reg up).
You just know where this is heading now, back to Paul & Toni's house (well, garden) where followed:
Two more bottles of port, a bottle of Bacardi, and a bottle of Morgan's Spiced
Peeing on each others trousers
Reg with his legs wrapped around Paul's waist being 'bummed'
Sweaty toe & nipple sucking*
Naked wrestling on the lawn
*Then Paul stuck his tongue in our mouths.
I was absolutely plastered, and I couldn't walk. A very drunk Paul carried me the long walk back to the car, but dropped me in the process - All I remember is the loud bang as my head hit the ground, then lying there laughing hysterically, Paul saying he was sorry, and Reg telling me to get up!
I can't remember much of the evening, but the bits I do remember were damn good. Can't wait for their next party.
Elaine.

Re: The Sunday Thread - Only post on a Sunday
Glad to hear you have been enjoying yourself Elaine - hope the hang-over is not too bad!
Haven't been on this much recently - neither has anyone else!
All I can say about this week is - its a good job I enjoyed last weekend so much - had a boring week, basically sat at the computer typing children's reports! The worst part of the job!!!!!! Itr takes about 1 1/2 hours per child - so, when you next pick up a child's report read it carefully and inwardly digest every word. They come from the heart and cause a lot of strife and repetitive strain! - 20 down, Only another 10 to go!!!! (And this was my holiday!!!!)
Oh, my relief from the boredom has been searching ebay for a large tent. Tony has finally given in and said he will camp for a whole week in the summer -if we get a big enough tent. Just got to persuade Dawn now that if she takes a friend, she might just have some fun in sunny Tywyn!

No hangover, wide awake at 05.30 as normal. For some reason I never get hangovers, no matter how much I drink.

Me too! A 4 metre, with the Malu porch, and the stove please. Just need a 5 door Vitara to go with it - The Jimny would be a bit of a squeeze, with us, the dog, our clothes, and the camping gear, etc.
Thanks for helping me spend a good few hundred quid Jono!
