Hi guys ,
I'm currently watching a white scamp mk2 ebay item number 251981438204, Is it somebody on the forum that owns this car? It's up at £650 as a classified , firstly , is this a good price for a project ? (open ended question , i realize!) ( currently looking for a mk2 or 3 , whether a project or runner) .Also where is the best place to find a scamp for sale , here ,ebay or other ?
thanks in advance , and sorry for all the questions !

Difficult to comment on the price when the seller has given so little information.  For example we are not told the size or condition of the engine, or even if one is included.  The rather shabby state of the car in the pre-rebuild photo isn't exactly promising. I'd recommend contacting the seller for more info, and before making any offer, consider a trip to take a look at what you'd be buying.

The best place to find a Scamp is as many places as possible.  The best place to buy a Scamp  is undoubtedly here, as the sellers will be knowlegeable Scamp enthusiasts, and the forum doesn't charge commission so the price should reflect this (I'm biased of course - see my own Unique Mk2 Project thread). OTOH not all Scamp owners are forum members.

Just in case you aren't aware the most important thing with a Scamp or any other kit car for that matter is that it is properly registered and has the correct logbook for the vehicle. This one sounds OK but you really need to check. Earlier mk2 Scamps should either have a chassis or kit number stamped on an alloy plate which is then riveted to the chassis or a number stamped on the chassis. Later ones made by Andrew MacLean will have the number welded onto a chassis rail in the engine bay.

Ah thanks Steve ,
sorry to be dense, with relation to the chassis/kit number on the earlier mk2 , Is there a specific place this should be ? Was it factory stamped on a certain place , or a plate attached by the end user on any point of the chassis?

I would say that a lot of the riveted on plates are most likely found on the subframe mounting tubes near the brake master cylinder or in a similar place on the passenger side. My car is a little unusual as it was inspected by a local DVLA office or the police and then issued a special chassis number. My number is stamped on what would be the bonnet slam panel on a normal car.

The chassis number could be anywhere or nowhere. Kit cars of early mk2 vintage didn't have to have one displayed, although you be a bit silly not to put it somewhere on the car.

More precisely, kit cars registered before Sept 2001 don't need a chassis number. But if it's there, it has to be legible and correct. MoT requirements here.
