HEAD to HEAD Challenge
Charles Andersen of AMC Cub fame has thrown down the gauntlet for 2 wheel drive Scamps i.e. Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3's to see if a "standard spec" Cub can take on a reasonably production Scamp over a laid down off-road course.
The preferred venue would be the Scamp Picnic this year, with permission from the Scamp Owners Club Committee of course!
The thought is a limited number of Cubs/Cub Owners would be allowed to attend as a one off.
It could be very good publicity for both Marques.
If anyone is interested please PM/MP NG Guy to try and work out the details.

Re: HEAD to HEAD Challenge
Sounds like a great idea. I'm sure Cub owners will be welcomed with open arms. The more the merrier I say.
One point thought. Reasonably production Scamp? You stand more chance of seeing a unicorn at the Scamp Picnic :-D

RE Cub/Scamp Head to Head
Thank You for your support in this, Chris Yates Scamp would be ideal I know it to be an extremely well sorted, much loved, and much used, go anywhere Scamp.
If a Cub can't match that, then it will stand no chance against the more extreme Scamp builds. James if we are talking one of your NON-pug Scamps that would be great also!
For any Scampers that are not familiar with an AMC Cub, they are copy of the later Ozy Mokes, usually using classic mini or Metro (A+), running gear, due to the heavy steel panels they normally use a 1300cc engine, and 12 or 13 inch wheels. They also have Roll Bars and Crash Bars as a standard fit. The chassis is similar to a Scamps in that box section steel is used. The petrol tank is housed in the passenger side pontoon. Like Mk2 and Mk3 Scamps a mini rear sub-frame is NOT used.

RE Cub/Scamp Head to Head
Thanks Rick,
I am afraid the AMC Cub Club is quite small so they won't have an alternate venue.
Hence the request to have the Challenge at this years SOC Picnic.
I believe one of the earlier (pre IVA) Cubs was tested by the Army on a Tank Range.
Charles Andersen the Cub manufacturer is keen to see how one or more of the newer Cubs compares to a 2 wheel drive Scamp off-road; hence the challenge.
To answer TRR if I come to the SOC Picnic it will be in a CUB, I am hoping it will be finished just before the IMM - hope to go for the Sunday (open-day).
Happy Scamping everyone!

Re: HEAD to HEAD Challenge
Hi there, as pointed out by Rob. To use the off-road site you do need to be a member of the club. You can turn up in just your underpants, LOL. You don't need a Scamp ot attend our event.. Our friend Mr Bridger on the Turkey did bring a Scamp but normally he brings a treaker or some sort of kit-car..Years ago someone turned up in a Metro, he has been named Metro Mick..So anyone are more than welcome to an event, years ago people turned up and bumed a ride with anyone that had a spare seat or sitting on their toolbox....

Club Membership etc.
There are unlikely to be more than 4 Cubs attending.
If we joined the SOC prior to going on the off-roading course would this be acceptable?
When does the subscription year Start/Finish with the demise of the Newark Show?
Finally what contribution to Portaloo's etc do you require?
Regards NG Guy.

Re: HEAD to HEAD Challenge
you can join the club anytime during the year, its 12 months from the day you join. At stourport you pay per day or for the full weekend. The cost of the site cost the club £400 plus £285 for 3 loo hire, plus about £80 for the food for Sunday evening buffet. As long as the costs are covered, its about £25 per adult under 17s are freE.. I think I got that right..Thats from Friday midday till Monday..

Financial Update for Scamp Picnic etc.
Thanks Rick and Mk3rob,
I will join the SOC in early July, to help me spread the cost of my various car club memberships'.
I will also liaise with Charles (Andersen) and explain the situation regarding Scamp Owners Club Membership/Use of Off-roading site etc.
Thanks again for your help RobG aka NG Guy.

RE Cub/Scamp Head to Head
Thanks Taz,
A "standard" Mk3 would be ideal, consider yourself on the list!
I think Charles (Andersen) is quite surprised at the response, lets hope he is up to the Challenge!
Thanks Again RobG.

RE Cub/Scamp Head to Head
Thanks Rick,
As Club President it would be very rude not include your Scamp!
We do however need to have a think about how we run the Challenge!
Also my gut feeling at this stage is that there might only be one or two Cubs willing to go off-road; the AMC Club is mainly based around going to local Mini Shows rather than the strong off-roading Tradition the SOC has.
But thank you for your support and interest.
Regards RobG.

Re: HEAD to HEAD Challenge
That sounds like someone is backing down. Don't fancy their chances against a Scamp round an off-road course so much now the competition has stepped up to the plate?
Don't worry I'm just teasing. The above is just that goading banter
That boxers have before a fight. ;-)

Are we to liken the Cubs to the French?
Head to Head - Looks like a Scamp Walkover
Sorry to say, this is unlikely to happen.
My Cub was due to be delivered BEFORE the IMM, last I heard it still hasn't gone to the paint shop and is still minus its engine!!
I have been lent the Cub demo; but I have gone down with some sort of D&V tummy bug so can't make the picnic.
The AMC Club seems to have died, with a couple of new members still waiting for delivery of their Cub Kits.
Its a shame as the Cub is a strong well made kit, the only problem I have with it is you are even more open to the elements than in a Scamp with a cab kit.
I can only apologize to those members of the SOC who have been looking forward to this event.
