fiat panda based scamp
hi scampers, on fiatforum.com, a question was asked about a panda based scamp, looks like a mk1 (to me) but had a pre 1962 reg, did the scamp company build a chassis to take fiat panda running gear?

Another of Fred's creations
I believe this was another example of Fred Howards handywork. Not a model manufactured by Robert Mandry or The Scamp Motor Company. If you go to the Scamp Owners Club Website. click on old previous events, then 2000 then The Mud Factory you will see a pic of it with Fred at the Helm. Fred also produced a Twini scamp (ie two engines) and one with front and rear steering (interesting beast).

Re: fiat panda based scamp
As far as I recall it was a fiat panda 4x4 running gear with the engine fixed in a Metro front subframe with the panda axle and suspension in the back. I think the rear hubs were drilled to take the Metro wheels as well.
I've no idea what happened to it though.

Fiat Panda Based Scamp
Hi James,
I remember this Scamp, though no idea what happened to it! From memory your technical description seems correct.
It was definitely a Fred Howard creation, as was the "twini-scamp" mentioned by John.
Ironically it was something Andy Mac considered for a while and was the inspiration for the rear metal work on my pro-type (04) SWB Mk 3 which I believe is still running around though not with Fiat running gear. This (the prototype) was originally going to take MG Metro running gear.
An apprentice piece was made to productionise the SWB Mk3 circa 1990 at about 1/4 scale; I think Helen still has this! We bought this to R/c it but this didn't happen!

Last I heard of it - years and years ago - it was in NewarkTRR Motorsport wrote:As far as I recall it was a fiat panda 4x4 running gear with the engine fixed in a Metro front subframe with the panda axle and suspension in the back.
