Im a sucker for punishment.........
I now work in a landrover garage (owned by the same company who had the portaloo's) and we get offered all sorts of old landy's etc, but whilst talking to a customer about a lightweight ( or air portable to be correct) i showed him a picture of my mk2 stating that the thinking was on the same lines. He then drops the casual comment of : oh ive got a mk1 had since 74........ do you feel like getting rid of it? i asked, well come and look at it and see what you think, so i did and now i own it.....damn ive done it again.
even has its keys still!!!

Very nice!
Well done, I think you've got a cracking little Scamp there. It's amazing how many people have owned Scamps or know someone who has in the past. its like the 6 degrees of separation theory but with Scamps.

Nice one. Fold-flat screen ... no seat belts (pre-'65 reg) ... so maybe a floor mounted starter button ... and is that a foot-operated dipswitch I see? Hope you got a V5 log book!

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
Little bit of an update.
Scamp has sat in the corner of the yard for a while behind a 1958 series 1 with PTO (which is for sale by the way)
Finally got round to stripping out the very wet very heavy very rotten ply floor.
this revealed more rot than i had expected (but then what should i have expected from a vehicle that has been sat outside for 25 years?) Basically all of the cross beams in the rear that held the rear subframe have had to be removed.
In fact once i had unbolted the front trunnions the rear box uprights that held the rear subframe bar detatched themselves and the subframe fell out all of its own volition.
any way a few pics.
Got some box yesterday so im going to measure up this weekend and try and re-build the back end first then the front.

Now that is interesting. Â A mk1 without a rear subframe - not a bad idea at all.Â

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
Thats looking good. I was trying to spot all the modified bits. I spent a while looking at mine and thought it might be a god idea to connect the front subframe rear mounts to the tower ones and you have done it. Is that to get some more space for the carburettor and exhaust ?
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build.

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
The Chassis has been modded by andrew at scamp motor co. the brief I gave him was for a mk1 frame with mk2-3 strength, the front frame modification is intended to allow a comparatively easy turbo fitment at a future stage.

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
My next question was where did you get your tube from but you have answered that !
Did it cost anywhere near the price of a new kit to get the work done ? A thought just crossed my mind about mine but it would involve robbing a bank as well !

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
Has been treated as a new kit as the old chassis was used as a template due to the fact there was about 6 inches of usable metal in the whole frame!
And A lot of the old panels will not fit due to the design changes implemented hence a new set has been manufactured for the newer frame.

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
It looked pretty bad in the pictures especially the one of the rear subframe with the chassis attached.
Thanks for putting the pictures on it's very interesting being able to see it all bare like that.

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
Got the frame home and squirrelled in to the barn with the mk2 ....need to have a serious clean out far to much stuff!!...there are actually 6 engines in the pile to the bottom left.....
I will be picking out a sub frame and some arms getting them prepped up and fitted so I can wheel the chassis about to work on the next thing will be what I call utilities...
Brake lines, fuel lines, cables and anything that makes it go stop or steer....then the engine which is a big project in its own right, what with the power unit I am planning on building...
And then last thing it can be clad in its panels and made to look respectable....estimated completion date 2056........

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
That looks interesting, is that a BMW head ?
Building or even buying mine wasn't planned so I am having to get all the jobs I was supposed to be doing first.
I hope I can get mine built a bit faster then you as I will be too old to drive it by then !

Re: Im a sucker for punishment.........
I have a lot of time for this project. So cool. I wish my mk1 had the same roll hoop as yours, mine has vertical b pillars basically and yours taper in.
I'm planning on not running a rear subframe as well. I've got a beam and coilovers on my old swift engine mini.
I'm not 100% sure I understand all of the mods made to the frame, I will study your pucs next to my frame when I get home tonight. I am not far off sending the chassis for shot blasting, I would certainly like to make any strengthening mods now before its blasted and painted.
I am extremely jealous of the BMW k1100 16v head conversion, I've wanted to do one since I was an engineering apprentice back in 2001, I decided Suzuki gti engine was an easy option
