Scamps are pretty rare to start with and 6-Wheelers even more so

Re: hi from the isle of man
Have you got some paperwork for it? I'm not sure what the IOM is like for registering kit cars but in the rest of the UK it's nigh on impossible to get a Scamp through the IVA so it can go on the road.

Is it possible we've found a loophole? Or is it available only to Mannin residents?

Re: hi from the isle of man
So the question is then - what is involved in selling an IOM registerd car to the mainland I think that we may be onto the beginings of a loophole

Re: hi from the isle of man
I wouldn't get your hopes up. As IOM is outside the EU it'll not have a Certificate of Conformity and DVLA will probably require an IVA Might have more luck if it has been registered in IOM for over 10 years as then I think it will only need to pass a standard MOT. Also you might be liable for import duty.
You could just run it on IOM plates but legally you're only allowed to do that for up to six months and then it needs to be re-registered in the UK. In the past people have just ignored this but with ANPR use spreading there has been a crack down on this in recent years.
The key to this would be what age the IOM registars put on the registration documents.

Re: hi from the isle of man
Actually IOM isn't a part of the EU, what it has is a protocol with it which was part of the UK's accession agreement when it joined the EU. But that is not really of relevance to SUMB's idea which is this:
The problem: It's pretty much impossible to road register a currently unregistered Scamp in the UK (of which there are quite a few if the number that appear on Ebay is anything to go by) as it will not pass the SVA/IVA test required by the DVLA.
Possible solution:
- Export Scamp to IOM.
- Pass IOM 'roadworthiness examination' and register Scamp in IOM.
- Reimport back to UK and change registration from IOM to UK.
From a quick read of the regs this could work but you would have to prove the vehicle is over 10 years old as then it is only required to pass a standard UK MOT to be imported and registered in the UK. A vehicle less then 10 years old has to be accompanied by a Certificate of Conformity, which obviously doesn't exist for Scamps, or pass an SVA/IVA which puts us back where we started. There is also the issue of import duty which would be payable.
Bit of a faff and I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig who tries to see if this will work
BTW Manx Scamp have a look on your chassis to see if you can find any chassis numbers. Andrew MacLean welded them on the top front chassis member on the later MK2's and the MK3's and has good records of them if you want to know some of it's history.
Charlie
PS: Definitely up for a trip to IOM as Iain's godfarther lives there and he's not seen him for years.
