Well, that's it then, the Hastings Bash won't include a trip to the pier. Very sad to see it fall into the sea today and our friends have just lost their business which they were hoping to revive with the compulsory purchase order which was due to take place this week. Very suspicious if you ask me,once again, very sad.

Shame about that. I have happy memories of a wonderful Jack In The Green weekend with Grand Union Rapper (info here) - I think it's the only time the team has actually been banned from a pub. Walking along the prom from the Royal Standard to the pier for the Saturday evening dance, some of us were dying for a leak, and the fountains en route didn't make it any easier! Happy days.

There has been an unexpected twist to the pier fire,it would appear that the listed part was the framework underneath the buildings. As pier was in such a state (especially the ball room end) the pier trust, after the council had carried out the purchase order, were to raise the £8 million to restore the pier and much of that was to demolish part of it. As the pier caught light, the council are the ones that will have to foot the clearing up bill and the demolishing has been done by the fire. So, providing the framework is still in tact, the compulsory purchase order may still take place. It's a funny old world int it.

It will end up like Brighton and the two Morecambe Piers, They said the council will foot the bill as they are listed building and they all rusted away and fell into the sea..What a waste of attractions we have lost forever..But who knows its still early days yet..we will have to see what happens in the years to come, if they do anything...

It has worked well for Weston Supermare, their pier opened yesterday after a major fire in 2008,let's hope Hastings pier trust are as much on the pulse as they were.

I bet Weston's insurance premium is off the scale! Intumecsent paint, Sprinklers and a VESDA fire detection system anyone?
