This one's cropped up a couple of times over the years, starting 5 years ago with a fresh coat of black paint but otherwise nothing special. In 2018 it was for sale on Gumtree, now yellow, and with the dynamo replaced by an alternator.

Plus points:

  • Proper rear seats with belts, which must have been an interesting engineering job, and there can't be much legroom. However if I were a potential buyer I would have a very hard look at what's underneath, as the original chassis doesn't have much structural stuff there, and you wouldn't want the seats coming adrift in a head-on. Especially if someone's in them.
  • I like the neat way the grille has been moved forward to clear the alternator.
  • Original starter & lighting controls still fitted.
  • Original period accessory extension to "magic wand" gearshift.
  • Dynamo control box has been left in place, making it easier to restore dynamo for authenticicy.

Minus points:

  • A few untidy bits let the car down. How much would a new front mat, cut to size, have cost?
  • Scruffy wiring. Look at the mess under the radio! OK these are only details, but at this price one expects near-perfection.
  • Chrome mesh pancake filter looks good but doesn't help the airflow a lot. Although it could perhaps be allowed as period eye-candy.
  • Spark plug leads are numbered the wrong way round!
