Steve G wrote:Would it be possible to let people know what format you would like articles to be written in perhaps ?

I was a bit disappointed in how the article I sent you came out, the pictures were a bit small and were difficult to see, perhaps it was just that I wrote too much and there wasn't enough space.

I sent the article as a word document which was laid out with the pictures included over 4 pages. It looked OK like that I thought what could I have done differently to make things better ?

We have found word documents work best as the magazine is produced in Microsoft publisher

But about the pictures from the a4 document the size you sent is difficult as even coping the pictures onto a5 makes them huge and go off the page as well the writing size is the same coping it straight over makes it go onto lots of pages

The word document did look good as it was but the transfer HAD to make it smaller

If you do have problems please let me know sooner rather than later as I can try and pre plan for such events in the next magazine

Would it be better to send the pictures as separate jpegs and indicate where in the text where they should go, or at least where the person writing the article thinks they should ?

Yes that is a good idea Steve

Or putting the pictures at the end of the text so not to much messing around is needed to be done

Or to put the articles and keep the pictures in the same place but change the page size to a5 so it gives a guideline of how big it will look in the magazine and also the font to size ten

This should make the pictures and text readable and to a good size

I'm not familiar with Microsoft Publisher, but I've had to shrink and crop pictures in Word to make them fit, and it wasn't too much bother.

Any advantage in laying up the material as A4 and having the printer resize it?

We have come a long way from the magazine being a hand written on a couple of A4 sheets / photocopied and sent out to by snail mail.

The format should be as simple as possible i.e. plain text in Word with webpage sized jpegs and let Tyler edit/publish the mag within the B5 booklet of pages within the clubs printing / posting budget.
