Elaine, Richard, if you can recommend a fairly relaxed MOT place, that'd be great!

Hi there, I know I'm new to the scamp forums, but all this talk of "relaxed MOT's" is the biggest load of pants I have ever heard in my life.
You can get an MOT on your Scamp without any problem. As long as the car has a registration and you have the log book, then there is no reason why an MOT tester can't test your vehicle.
I have a friend who runs his own garage, his father is an MOT tester, and I asked him what would happen if you brought in a scamp, registered as an Austin, he simply explained that it is not his job to be reporting any differences in log books, at all. Even if the car appears to be a ringer, it's not his job to report it. He still has to give an MOT, and log all of the details onto the computer, as per normal. It's that simple.
For your information, the people who are responsible for looking at the validity of your cars registration are VOSA. Usually they take one look at things like Scamps, kit cars, chops, etc etc, and as long as it is somewhat based on an Austin (which of course it is) then they have nothing to complain about.
Excuse the rant, I just don't like to see the blind leading the blind.
Cheers.

I meant as long as the car is based on an austin and it is registered as an austin. Same as a chop is based on a harley, and is registered as a harley, etc etc.
Cheers.

With the MOT being computerised the garage knows what make of car it is testing - so if you arrive in a scamp and the v5c says austin seven or austin mini then the tester can refuse a ticket be cause you have not presented the correct car.
I'm sorry but this just is not correct. They cannot refuse ticket. It is not the MOT testers job to do that. It is up to VOSA to look at whether a car has been suitably registered or not.
Cheers.

Hi Mr.Talk Wrench and welcome to our fold. MOT stations "should" be testing to the same standards, but there are some that are absolute -rs-'s when it comes to kit cars, especially ones with nice sharp edges such as a Scamp. About 13-15 years ago, before we had our own MOT station, we used to take our cars to another MOT station and there was one mechanic who flatly refused to MOT my Scamp.Another thing,is that it is not Vosa to look at the validity of your cars registration in fact it is DVLA(Check the latest club mag and there is an article in there explaining this problem). A mechanic logging onto your MOT can put in what he or she likes when carrying out an MOT test as long as what it is he sees in front of him, unfortunately a Scamp being a bit of a rare beast can cause confusion and the wrong entry can be entered onto the Vosa database, then you would get a letter from DVLA asking you to explain the discrepency.Read the article in the mag because big brother is now watching and for a reason!!!!!
