Is "Scamping" notifiable to the HSE?
Just thinking about the RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) regulations and I think that "Scamping" qualifies. I feel that is both a disease and most definitely a dangerous occurrence. What do the honourable members think?
I will liken it to Malaria. Once you have had Malaria, it is with you for life. After your first attack you may not have one for years, but it is always there in your system, waiting for your body’s defences to weaken and let down their guard then WHAM! You’re ill again……
Take me for example…decades ago I had a Scamp..well actually I had two…but that’s not important…. Then I got better…and was Scamp free for many, many years….then I caught the bug again..and find that I appear to be having one scamp after another..with only short spells between…. and it’s getting worse. So is it a disease?
As for being a dangerous occurrence? Oh yes.. I can assure you it is! Last night I broke the news to Jo that I’d be buying another one………..you will note that this post is being typed with my wireless laptop from the dog kennel at the bottom of the garden………

Well Jono, I agree,
But as far as I know there is no known cure.............
I have suffered with this affliction since 1994 when I wanted a Mini based kit car. I scoured the stands at the Newark Kit Car Show, which just happens to be my local show and decided I wanted a utility type kit, which meant one of three options a Scamp or a Nomad or a Gecko.
I placed an advert in the local free paper "WANTED, Mini based utility type kit car".
I had three replies, so I bought all three. (see it affects you straight away, without you even knowing)
I then contacted Andrew at The Scamp Motor Company and bought a brand new kit, a mark 3 very long wheelbase (13' 6 " long, six feet from the rear of the roll cage to the tailgate, so I could sleep in the back, this was before I found out that the club went green laning and a long wheel base was not what was needed ! )
I then proceeded to rebuild one of the three I bought for green laning and the new kit had to wait three years before it was finished.
Since then I have had about 30 or so Scamps through my hands as well as 5 Nomads and a couple of Gecko's..........
Take the last Newark kit Car Show for instance, I decided to sell one of my kits as I have far too many....
But on the Sunday morning I went to Chesterfield and bought another one !
This weekend coming I am off to sunny Wales to fetch John Godwins mark 3.

There's also a case to be argued that for a short time (in our youth) "Scamping" was also a Sexually Transmitted Disease!
Halcyon days!

I kicked the dog out of the kennel, made it 12 foot wide, 20 foot long, fitted a wood stove, and now call it home................... they call it quarantine.

I like your style... may have to go the "wood burner" route myself... 'cause I think .."It'll be a cold day in Hell before I let you back in the house" means I'm gonna be "outdoors" for a while....
