Thinkin of getin a scamp .Wot should i look for ? apart from the rust where should i look ie bad places for the tin worm .Would prob look for frame with vin so can do my own thing with it ,ie 16v 2l rear end red top made a mini with one in went like stink i think it would be fun in the arse end but s--t of road (well you can't have it all ).
Re: thinkin of getin a scamp
Come down to the B/ham bash this weekend,
A lot of different types of Scamps will be there.
Loads of experts (oh and i'm going as well ) to give you advice on the pitfalls .
Think of an idea and it has prob been done before over the last 40 years.
Oh and dont forget the partying

Re: thinkin of getin a scamp
Some frames may have been waxoyled from new, and there were a few fully galvanised ones, but most are going to have some degree of rust by now. However the metal is quite thick and a good one should last for 10 or 20 years yet. After that, it's made out of ordinary square tube joined mainly at right angles, so repairs won't be out of the question.
Mk1: any survivors will either be needing a rebuild by now, or have already had one. Mine, now 35 years old, has got to the point where I'm having to patch up the chassis for the MoT each year, and will have to start replacing complete tubes soon.
Mk2: check the projections which sit on the front subframe towers: these were a weak point in their original form. They need to be with triangular-braced or otherwise reinforced.
Mk3: the one I'd recommend for minimum problems.
If you want to use your Scamp on the road, make sure it's been re-registered as a kit car - anything with a Q reg will be OK. But avoid any unfinished project that has only the donor's V5!
