Should I buy one ?
Hello, a potential newbie here.. My main thing are minis, but I've been offered a Scamp by a bloke who is clearing a yard out. There's a Scamp tucked away in the corner, I think it's a 79 and, to be honest the body is very tired but not much rust. There's various bits missing from the engine bay though.
He is after £500 for it -is this decent ? All a bit out of the blue, but I'd really appreciate any pointers/guidance.

Hi KT1966,
The first thing to ask about is a valid V5C or that it has a registration mark that will allow you to apply for one.
Being registered as a Scamp or Kit assembled from parts is a good starting point

Yes it does have a v5 and a proper reg plate. Unfortunately, it's so buried in other stuff it's tricky to get any decent photos. At the back of my mind is that's it's going to cost a fair to ring it back to life andimwondering if it's worth it as they don't seem for that Mitch even when they are really well done

Kit cars are for fun, not investments, and it's safe to assume you won't get back what you spend on them. For £500 you should be able to find something that doesn't need a huge amount of work, in fact not so long ago it would have bought something tatty but ready for the road.
If I were you I'd insist on dragging the Scamp out and seeing exactly what's missing and what work will be needed. Then try to put a value on the fun you'll have sorting it, 'cos that's essentially what you'll be paying for!
P.S. I posted this at 9.20 in the morning. Where's our server located - Melbourne?

Re: Should I buy one ?
Thanks Rob, but we are away this weekend on holiday. That's very good of you though, . My inclination is its probably not for me with what will need to be spent on it etc etc, but if anyone else is interested then let me know and I can put you in touch. Thanks
