Wales Holiday 2012
Before you all start moaning about the fact we haven't got 2011 finished with yet but Colette must get her holiday request form in by the 1st of October
Can I suggest that we aggree on July 28th through to August 5th?
There were suggestions that we look for somewhere new for next year, still in Wales but further north. This has yet to be looked into fully.
Please either post or PM me, Chris, or James if you have other dates that you feel would be more suitable.

It doesn't seem to matter where we have a scamp event it's the same group of people almost everytime. Hastings this year was a prime example. with the exception of Chris and John & Jan from down south it was all Midlanders that stayed on the camp site.
There were a few southerners that popped in to say hi over the holiday but where were all the southern members that always moan about nothing in there area? well they didn't show up and they never do. simple as that.
besides, we tend to go where the person who can be bothered to organise the event likes to go. I like Wales, Chris likes Hastings, where do you fancy organising an event?
Re: Wales Holiday 2012
I'm purely speaking on mine and mk1 daves behalf, we both use our scamps as daily runners and whilst I do enjoy a good run the stress on the motors can be a problem but its more a case that as petrol climbs, trips to the midlands becomes more difficult, I've been lucky enough to meet Wezgit and Mk3 Rob at a show and Lyn and Tony actually came to visit me which was nice but that's still a small amount of scampers. I appreciate that a majority of scampers are from the midlands (must be something in the water) but id certainly love to attend every scamp event and south wales is lovely (plus the mam in law lives there) but north wales would be too far in my eyes. Ok I'm done lol

Re: Wales Holiday 2012
Hi Mutstar,
The suggestion of North Wales was knocked about this year at Tywyn and is not set in stone. We are not looking to exclude people, exactly the opposite. I'm in Lincoln and it takes me about 6 hours to get to Tywyn 4 up and fully loaded and North Wales wouldn't save me much on time. It's a weeks holiday so I'm not too bothered if South Wales adds a couple more hours to the journey. It's all about the company and the site for me.
To be perfectly honest I am only aware of very few criteria for a proposed holiday site.
Mainly close proximity to a good quality beach for swimming and paddling. I personally like steam trains, not bothered about the guage, just a good length of track. Touristy bits are good too. I am sure everyone else has one specific thing they are looking for. I know that Red Leader likes to go mountain biking and is prepared to drive to somewhere as long as it's not too many miles away.
As the destination has not yet been set any suggestions are more than welcome, but it will ultimately be down to someone doing the organisation for their chosen site. We have repeatedly gone back to Tywyn because it is a nice pitch, they know us and are happy for tents, caravans and trailer tents to be pitched all together, and no-one else has bothered to sort anywhere else.

We used to have some good holidays in Tavistock and Glastonbury, then it'll be a sod of a long way to go for everyone! Stopped at an excellent little village near Tavistock with the Scampers called "Chipshop" there was also a pub, with a skittle alley,in the Village called the Chipshop Inne and on the wall outside it had written "alcohol induced, brain cells reduced!", just a thought.

Re: Wales Holiday 2012
There's a lovely village in north west leicestershire that would be worth a look. the pubs aren't bad either.

Lands End to John O'groats, that'll sort 'em out!
Seriously though, family commitments has meant that over the last 15 or so years I havn't been to a Scamping holliday, plus the fact her indoors likes the comfort of a hotel, gite or cottage. So you carry on fighting it out with yourselves,if you decide on somewhere like Yarmouth and the Norfolk broads,it might be within a weekend trip for me,but I think that petrol costs will play a part for the longer distance Scampers wherever you go.

Re: Wales Holiday 2012
OK, so have picked up the search for a different campsite as Courtney "hasn't had chance"
Have found this site in North Wales and thoughts are needed by all who plan on attending please http://www.snowdoniaandcoastholidays.co.uk/page.asp?id=78
£7 per Adult
£2 per Child
50p per Dog
£2 per night for electricity
Showers are free.

Re: Wales Holiday 2012
Might try a flying visit,we'll have to see how holiday commitments pan out at work,2 of our employees have kids so they normally take the holidays during the school holidays, and to try and run a garage without a mechanic can bit a little problamatic.

Re: Wales Holiday 2012
As we are looking at a new site obviously a site visit will be needed hence trying to get a few lined up to visit in one weekend.
I am working on the principal that a pub and shop in walking distance is not a priority but quality shower and toilet block is. Not making the same mistake as last time I organised the campsite
Need input from those planning to attend though so I can cover everyones wishes. Also other site suggestions are more than welcome in case I've missed somewhere.
And a third site I've found and want to contact is - http://members.fortunecity.com/dinarthhall/

Re: Wales Holiday 2012
We can only come for the last few days, so we're happy with wherever you choose.
Not bothered about the price. We tend to use our solar shower & portable toilet, and we've got a fridge in the Land Rover to store food, so we're quite easy to cater for anyway.
A nearby pub/cafe that does food would be very nice though (cooking dinner/evening meals is something that I try my best to escape from when on holiday). Oh, and can you cancel any rain/high winds please?
1 x 4 berth tent (& 1 x Shower/Toilet tent), ideally with parking for the Defender (with fridge in) next to tent please.
Arriving on the morning of Thursday 2nd Aug, leaving on Sunday morning. Back at work on Monday, BOOOooooo!

Re: Wales Holiday 2012
OK, so have now spoken to Dinarth Hall Campsite and they are happy to accept groups as long as we aren't too noisy late at night - didn't ask about prices as will do that when the site visit is made. Only problem with this one might be that anyone wanting electric hook up for their caravan has to pitch in the "Caravan Field" but this apparently is only over the hedge to the tent field.
Still waiting for a reply from Aberafon.

LOL is that a TRR hour?
Mind you we once did our house to Arthog in 2 hours 15 minutes.
Chaz spent most of that time trying to fit in the glovebox of the Golf.

The only time I was doing that was while you were negotiating the roundabouts at Cannock
