HELP!!! COMPUTOR PROBLEM AND HALF THE MAGAZINE LOST!!

Over the last 2 days I have spent the best part compiling the magazine and had reached the heady heights of 24 pages with very little content from anyone apart from one page from Rick and 2 pages from Mr Mutstar of the forum,having finally got the results for the picnic I set about printing the magazine in rough format on my old H.P. all in one printer. It came up with an error message whilst printing and has now lost half of the magazine!!!!! I cannot seem to retreive it, can anyone with anymore computor knowledge please help me try and retreive it, or offer me a suggestion(apart from suicide)on what to do.

Thanks Elaine, I spoke to a computor nerd today, he said there is probably a conflict in the microsoft publisher that probably occurred when I reinstalled my computor a while back. It doesn't look like there is any recovery options open, so I willl have to rewrite the magazine again, lucky enough I did manage to print a few of the pages before it went belly up, but it still means I have got to hand write just over half of the magazine. The last save I did was at about 18.00 hrs, it didn't recognise it and dumped the files into the cosmos, lucky enough it recognised the save I did at lunchtime yesterday so I have 11 out of the 24 pages saved!! Boy do I hate computors sometimes, this time I will make 2 files up of the same mag and save them every step of the way.
Wish me luck, one frustrated editor!?!?!?!?

Chris don't let computers get the better of you - type the text in word without any formatting, make sure you have save every 5 mins in your word preferences, and aways make a copy at regular intervals on a removeable drive i.e. memory stick, same applys to any jpegs, then cut & paste the text and photos into publisher - you will aways have an independant copy of everything in the event of hardware/software failure - what did we do before computers - we had lives - good luck

What did we do before computers? We used electric typewriters and Xerox machines. Before that, manual typewriters, stencils and duplicators.

You were lucky we had wax tablets and sharpened sticks and before that - well before that most people couldn't read so no point in writing anything down ha ha ha - roll on Windows 8

Just thought I would let you all know,after loosing 2/3rd of the Scampers Mag that I had painstakingly written over the Christmas period,I had set aside this weekend to finish and print off the magazine.Booted up the computor,started windows media player to have the tv on in the background,and the thing froze!!Tried the normal control,alt,delete to no avail so,when that failed,switched the computor off from the mains.I have not been able to start it since!!Either there is a problem with the start up programs or there is something bust inside the dammed thing.So,I have now bought a laptop and external hard drive case(to put the old computor hard drive in),and transfer the the mag over to complete it.The chances of a print off now are non existant,I will try and do it duriung the week.Sorry folks to let you down again,but you can Imagine how I am feeling at the moment!!Gutted!!!!

Isnt it about time that those who can receive, by e-mail, the Scamp Magazine just get it that way.

If they wish a hard copy then they can just print it off themselves.

I appreciate that not all can get it by e-mail (how are they reading this) and would want it through the post. But in this day and age it cant be many.

Chris is doing a great job collating the material sent to him, but it would save time and money if he wasnt having to print and post the magazine.

At present i get 3 copies. 2 e-mailed in different formats and the one through the post.

I propose that a note is sent out with the magazine asking who would be happy to get the e-mail copy only.

Second, anyone ????????????

They do get it by email Rob,they get it in PDF format,but it's still got to be written and put together.26 pages this time and very little input from anyone else.I'll crack on,ta ta.

Oi, it wasnt my handbag. I was holding it for the photograher!

Just thought I would let you know,it was the graphics card that failed in my computor,should be fixed by the weekend if I can find a low profile graphics card locally.
