How good is your cars antifreeze?
Not everyone pays a garage to have their car serviced (sorry Mr Wesgit) i.e. your Scamp - and you probably have put it away in ther garage for the winter anyway - but is your antifreeze up to scratch to prevent the engine freezing and popping the core plugs? I have one of those pocket testers (ony for ethylene based anitfreeze) to check if its up to strength, its similar to the Halfords one for £1.99 see below and spookily adverstised on this forum.

Re: How good is your cars antifreeze?
Warning:
One important thing to keep in mind is the poisonous nature of ethylene or propylene glycol. Antifreeze can smell sweet and look inviting to pets and small children. Ingestion of antifreeze can cause serious illness or even death, so containers should be kept in secured storage areas.
The Scamp Owners Club does not condone the tasting of antifreeze - you do so at your own risk!
PS: (Rob stick to whisky)

What for antifreeze
that makes it a bit pricey.
the Forces in Germany used vodka in their Screenwash as it was cheaper than shop bought stuff.

You should have told that to the Austrian wine manufacturers a few years ago!! Kills cats for sure,a spate of that in our area (not near our garage I hasten to add), never known a grown adult to keel over doing the once a year licky finger trick with antifreeeze though, battery acid may be,mind you there would probably be no finger to lick then!!
