Finally..
After protracted negotiations, (thanks to comments on here, the fact the car is not in the condition the photos make out and the guy needed the sale) he agreed to a significantly reduced price and at last we have a Scamp!
It does however seem to run nicely and with or without the front windscreen (which lifts off) it's really fun!!
Thanks for all your advice over the last few months. I'll no doubt see you out and about when family life with the new-born settles down.
