Had a woman in at work today winging and whining at her new Ford Ka.Now,I knew they were based on the Fiat 500 floorpan, what I didn't know was that it was a complete Fiat with a Ford badge on,old trusty "fire" engine and all.Gutless wonder with aircon................mmmmm niiiice!

I loved my old Uno with it's 'Fire' engine. Used to go like the proverbial brown stuff off a shovel !!

Don't like the new shape Ka though. So it's really a 500 in disguise?

Yep I think the only thing that's Ford is the badge and the outer skin. And yes the 1200 and 1400 fire engines were good, reliable and went well, however the 1000 fire was a bit gutless and then they put aircon on it which zaps a few more horsepower off it. The old Ka,warts rust and all with a 1300 durotorque engine used to go like stink, I think that it was this engine that was designed by Yamaha,I know the 1250 and 1400 16 valve lumps in the Fiesta's were.

We've driven past the new Ka and not even known what it was. At least the original Ka was unique looking.

Yes,quite agree,it's one of those non cars,a euro box.As you say the last Ford Ka,love it or hate it,was distinctive and now they are all going, where all the good Fords eventually go,to that great rust pile in the sky,to be replaced by the FiatyKa.

And the Punto shares it's platform with the current vauxhall corsa.

I don't fit in a Punto but the Corsa driving position is perfect. Odd that! The new Ford Ka Icon_rolleyes

Wasn't the Fiat 500 floorpan actually based on a Fiat Panda ?
