The '93 Telford Picnic.....
The year James' Mk3 won Best of the bunch, Best Mk3, Best interior and Best under bonnet(?).
I remember it was so dusty we had to off road with the doors on and windows shut, to avoid mucking up the seats.

Sorry Rob, but you sound a bit niggled about the awards ie The best off-roader, the club needs to change a few things without upsetting anyone. We need to cut down on a few trophies. I hope that we get some new ideas from members. Somethings are a little long in the tooth.

LOL I think Rob was joking! But if you do get rid of some trophies, I don't think Best Off-Road Adapted should be one of them, because as far as I know it is actually the newest category. And after all, you are trying to promote more off-roading events...... Maybe you could bring in a rule that says whoever won it last year, can't enter the next?
The Monster will finally be getting its upgrades, so it won't be at Stourport 2010 anyway,

Re: The '93 Telford Picnic.....
Chris Yates won it the first year (1999) and Leanne won it in 2006 (couldn't make it that year).4x4 Rob wrote:(are there other names on that title Reg ?) Did you have a Mini based Scamp before the Monster any pics please.
After driving several mini based Scamps over the years, I knew I didn't want one, too unreliable (did I mention I won 'Broken Spanner' one year, while not even owning a Scamp). In March 2000 the Monster was finished after a 10 month build and the rest is history.....
Re: The '93 Telford Picnic.....
I have been doing some digging, not in my garden but in my old Scampers mags. I won the very first Best Adpated / Best Offroader catagory in 1997 with Cyclops. Dea Marks now Stanley suggested this new catagory as many Samps were being modded and fettled to stand the rigours of the Telford site and other greenlaining / offroading events. Most mods were done using the excellent booklet written by Colin Edmondson that detailed mainly the weak points in the Mk2 chassis which when carried out meant you could enjoy yourself without having to go back home on the back of an RAC / AA or Greenflag truck. Keith can't recall his surname won it in 1998 with an old kit car that was stripped down to its chassis and thrashed to within an inch of its life over the Picnic weekend. And Chris Yates won it in 1999. There has always been controversy over what is a Scamp i.e. should it have an A series engine, an original Scamp chassis - a Mk4 has neither. Things move on and who knows what the Scamp might have morphed into if the SVA had not come about. The Scamp evolution has gone in different directions - different engines with different sub frames and 4x4 varients - while there are guys (and gals) with the urge to cut and shut and wield a mig torch the Scamp will go on for several years yet. Who will be first with a fuel cell powered Scamp????
Happy Scamping in 2010.
PS Mr Mclean hinted at the Picnic that he was still persuing the possibilty of a Mk5?????

Re: The '93 Telford Picnic.....
Good bit of info there Martin, I'm guessing there wasn't an actual trophy for the category until 1999 then? Reg can't remember too much vodka maybe!
We're just pleased that folks are keeping these weird & wonderful cars on (and off) the road, whatever form they're in.
Long live the Scamp,
Elaine.
