Mk. 3 Steering Rack? Empty Mk. 3 Steering Rack?

Post  kevin1977 on Wed Oct 11, 2017 5:08 pm

Hi All

Need a new steering rack for my Mk. 3 - do i just order a classic mini rack? Also i think the donor car was a Metro - does this make a difference?

Cheers

First why do you need a new rack has it failed the MOT?

Also there were different racks for Mk1 and Mk2 (Mk1 seems to be NLA), plus a couple of specials available.

Did it fail cos it was leaking, early racks were oil lubricated, later are grease, or have the joints worn, has it got drums or discs?

I am not sure exactly but I am reliably informed by my friend it needs replacing - he MOT'd it and owns the garage so I didn't question him :-)
