Well, I've seen enough 3-axle arctic tractors running on two with the centre axle raised, presumably they pay less road tax that way. Whether the DVLA will treat a car or light goods vehicle in the same way, I dunno. You can only ask!

Incidentally Bob Mandry used to offer a bolt-on 6w extension, which may have been used in this case - look closely at the chassis between the wheels.

6 Wheeler in a sorry state....... Empty 4 or 6 six wheels

Post  NG Guy on Thu Sep 18, 2014 11:45 am

Having once owned a six wheeled (SWB Mk3) the log book should say 3 axle etc.
For Mk3's (yes I realize this is a MK2) it was a "special" chassis option - ref Andy Mac.

IMHO it would be a shame to cannablize a rare, even tatty six-wheeler to make a much more common 4 wheeled SCAMP; unless it has already had the bolt-on treatment.

I think the chassis number is the main link to the registration number there are others on this forum who have actually worked for the DVLA so they could help in this matter.
Though saving a Scamp rather than letting it go for scrap is always commendable.

Just a thought - regards NG Guy

I am so relieved that this has ended, was very tempted to bid. For a long time I have fancied a demountable camper and think a 6 wheeler scamp would make a good base. Was  even working out a way of hinging the rear frame so it would sit on the back making it more manouverable when not carrying the demountable. I dont have the space or the funds but I was still considering a bid!

£871 so far!!  Good, that has stopped my silly notions about a six wheeled demountable.
