Hello from East Yorkshire
Hi, I'm Chris from a village north of Hull. I was interested in building a Scamp years ago, but it never materialised. Always advertised for £180. I had mentioned to someone else and he had a brouchure featuring a white Mk2 crossing water, AMP333S..I now have one, well, I have a chassis with rotten front subframe, its been yellow, red, and now blue, and was rescued out of a skip. I moved onto Landrovers years ago. but thought this may be a bit of a different challenge. Would there be any serial numbers anywhere?

Hi Chris, welcome aboard!
Originally it was up to the builder how and where to affix the chassis number, typically by stamping it onto a piece of ali which was then rivetted on. The later Mk2s, and all Mk3s, had the number written in weld on the back of the front crossmember.
The chassis number may tell you something about the age of the original kit, but won't help you find the registration number, which is the important thing. Do you have any clue what it was? I'm afraid that without it, your Scamp will only be suitable for off-road use. Which is what they are meant for, after all.

Re: Hello from East Yorkshire
Just been to look for a number, but can't see one, would it be possible, eventually, to get it registered on a Q plate?, or could I use a doner Mini plate? I've had it for 4 years now. If it can't be put back on the road I might as well cut it up for scrap now and save a lot of hassle

Re: Hello from East Yorkshire
You could have re-registered under a Q plate or transferred a donor registration 10 years ago, but the system was then changed. Now we have the Single Vehicle Approval test, essentially a roadworthiness test in line with today's ideas on safety, which the Scamp design does not have a hope of passing - too many sharp corners! So unless you have some sort of evidence that your car is already registered, sadly it's a no go.
If possible, please don't put your chassis back in the skip just yet - it might come in handy for repairing another Scamp.

Re: Hello from East Yorkshire
Thanks for the info. I'll tidy it up a bit and stick it upstairs out of the way. I'll have to do a bit of detective work when i have a bit of spare time and see if I can find a previous owner and go from there. Many thanks again.
