Hastings Bash 2011
Well,it's deffinately on for the weekend of the 28th,29th and 30th of May,and for those who want to stay the rest of the week as well. I have yet to find a campsite that is willing to "negotiate" a deal so I may be looking at a venue that entertains "rallies" (with basic toilet facilities) for the weeked and maybe move on to a campsite with showers etc. on the Tuesday. The going price for campsites down here is £20.00 per night for a pitch with electric hookup and 2 adults and the campsite near to me have said that they would not book anyone for less than 3 days as they are normally full over that period, there are still fingers in the pie and it will be sorted(hopefully)before the Christmas Scampers comes out.

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
We are definately 'in' (again!) but would prefer to stay at the same site for the duration as I hate setting up and taking down tents!!!(I know, I know - how can I say that? - what kind of girl guide am I??) But it does make for a very busy day, taking down, packing up, pitching and setting up again!
I liked the site last year - and it was very suitable for those with children! Didn't think it was too expensive. And the sun shone!!!!!

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Have you all booked the campsite? Last I heard they had run out of electric hook ups. I've got this friday off to sort out a treasure hunt and see who's booked in at Senlac campsite and to see if we can have a bbq on Sunday evening.
If not we'll have to go back to my place and then finish the evening off at the campsite.

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Brenda & self will be Battling in B&B, so to speak, so I trust that the campsite accepts visitors.
If all else fails, BBQ on the beach somewhere (and with fresh mackerel - wow!)? The magic mirror that is Google Maps shows the South coast in that area to be excessively built-up for the most part, but Stream Lane and Sea Rd, Fairlight Cove, look interesting.

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Mackerel cooked long and slow on the bbq is the business, sprats are a lot quicker and normally alot cheaper,as far as a bbq on the beach,I know of a place, and it could be arranged, but it would take some organising. If the weather's right and we all muck in it could be done.

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
It's not a nudist beach is it?
You'll have to ask Robin and Elaine that one as they "stumbled" accross one on the London to Brighton run!!
But,once again,it could be arranged if someone would like to participate!!
O.k.,I went to the campsite yesterday and they have told me that the site is now officially full, however,as we are a group and they can take more but please mention you are with the Scamp Owner's club.Larger units may be a problem, but just ask. They have also given permission for those non campers to come through the gates to join us,and if the BBQ on the beach does not come off they have also given us permission to hold it at the campsite.

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Thanks for that Chris. It was very sad to lose dad-in-law. As Tony said, it seems very strange to know that he is no longer just at the end of the phone. A bit selfish to interrupt our holiday though!
Never mind, at least we will be able to come down until Tuesday. We are both looking forward to the break.

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Hi,
I would like to come down and meet some more of you all if possible. I met John at Detling last Saturday.
If u are all about Saturday afternoon/evening I may be able to get down then.
Can someone pm me the campsite and a mobile number. I have John's but cannot see that he is going.
I may have a scamp by then (fingers crossed) but it will still be in Scotland.
Thanks
Adam

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
The campsite is ; Senlac Wood Holiday Park, East Sussex,Catsfield Rd,Catsfield,Battle,East Sussex,TN33 9LN
On Saturday we should be at Rye and Camber Sands during the day, then back to Senlac Wood for the evening and maybe a stroll down to the Squirrell pub later. If you arrive at the campsite and we are not there my contact number and rough outline of our itinery is there,(using the Scamp flexy time clock!!) I will also send my phone number in a private message.

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Chris, that's a blast from the past! Five Mk1s, three Mk2s and a single Mk3 which looks like it might be Steve Taylor's with the Lancia engine. The red Mk1 near the back appears to be Kermit, and the blue Mk1 at the front, which I remember having its sump repaired at the 1985 Picnic, Shaun O'Brien's.

The blue mark one

The blue mark one is mine Bob. You are correct about a little hole in the gearbox casing.
John shelley did most of the repair work using chicken wire a ring pull from a beer can and some
plastic metal. As I was off to Sweden in the scamp on Wednesday the following week, I
replaced the gearbox. Chris Westgate took engine to work an swapped gearboxes and I managed to
refit in time for a test run to a friends near Margate. Helpful Hint. If you replace magic wand gearbox
with later remote type, put a plate over the hole left in floor. I did not have time before test run.
On the way home we hit floodwater at quite a speed, the water came through that hole and soaked me
It would have been good to see how long the Shelly repair lasted but for some reason I wanted to be
sure about reliability.
I seem to recall Shaun with a mark 2 which grew every year with another layer of
good old Hammerite!!

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Thanks Chris
For a great few days Darn Sarf.
There was a great turn out with people arriving on Friday (Sat,Sun and Mon) and departing after a few days.
I left Chris, Elaine and Robin at the Camp site last night when i departed at 1130pm, arriving home at 4.30am after a couple of stops and a kip.
By now Chris should be crawling across the ground after a nice stroll with Elaine and Robin.
Yesterday was spent on a day trip to Calais and Bexhill on Sea..........I mean Boulogne Sur Mer where we actually found some sunshine when we partook in French pastime of sitting on our a**es with food and a pint
Book me in for next year

Re: Hastings Bash 2011
Want to say a big thank you to Chris for organising this great break. Unfortunatley it didnt turn out to be the best holiday for us due to personal reasons, but we cant blame Chris for that! Just would also like to say a big thank you to our friends that were away with us and helped us out, it was very much appreciated.
