Stoneleigh 2009 Empty GOOD ARTICAL

Post  m3prq Thu Apr 30, 2009 8:41 pm

I see the S.V.A has ended only to get worse under a differant name.
not that it concerns Scamps as we know S.V.A killed the mini base.

That very strange, I found a 4 page artical in the link Nettie sent about the S.V.A and went back to read it again.

I can not find it again.

To be fair the only significant changes between the SVA and IVA relates to the fuel tank being in a separate compartment isolated from the passenger compartment.... headrests for the seats.... and the cost!
SVA in not "unreasonable".
I read recently that Andrew Macleans (spelling?) major worry was about the steering column. There are all sorts of engineering solutions to that.. if you can’t persuade the nice VOSA man that the standard Mini position/column is acceptable. Cool

I always thought the square tubing was one of the main problems - scooping up pedestrians and the like - plenty of pipe insulation might have done the trick but not a permanent solution - not having a collapsable steering column was only one of the things that sounded the end of the Scamp - RIP

Square tubing can be replaced with tubes of the correct radius.... scooping up pedestrian... not part of SVA. Crumple zones etc...are not part of SVA.... Very Happy ...

It could have been the cost to get a Scamp through the then SVA - I never got that close to Andrew to know exactly why he did not persevere - but you could always buy the rights and put one through the current SVA or IVA if you have the inclination and the dosh What a Face

When my Dad had a SSSI slapped on his garden he went ballistic and spent years fuming and cursing the Numpties at "English Nature" that had made it impossible to do anything in his garden. When I bought his years later house, I dragged all the old paperwork out and it certainly was a bitter exchange of Solicitor's letters and the like. Then I settled down to actually read the SSSI notice in detail. It was nothing like as onerous as the Old Man had imagined....and the key word is imagined. He'd thrown his hands in the air and "gone off on one" without paying attention to the detail.
I read the SVA manual quite regularly..sad but true.. I have a few friends who have built specials and we have analysed this document to death. In the beginning it was foretold as the "death knell of the kit car", but in reality? I think not.
The IVA is the same..somethings have been changed.. but, as kit cars go..it's a cost issue...and even this was bought on by other sectors of the motor industry pointing at kit car owners and whining about it "not being fair they don't pay as much as we do".. Without that I believe that VOSA would have been quite happy to carry on the status quo.....those I’ve met and dealt with have all been quite keen on kit cars and specials… especially the well engineered and presented ones..
As for buying the rights and producing Scamps? No thanks, that would mean dealing with Joe Public…and I’m not a “people person”. Rolling Eyes
I will get round to doing my own motor.. but the way things are going at the moment that may be a long time away…. Embarassed
