40 year old shortie MK1 for sale

Post  Martin & Nettie on Sat Mar 14, 2009 8:01 am

Dear Scamp owners club, please can you put this ad on your web site.

Thanks,

Mini Scamp MK1 (1969)

This is a unique, shorter than usual Mini Scamp MK1 (built on Scamp designs, not from the kit). The steel frame was fully galvanised when it was built and has suffered no rot in 40 years! All body work is aluminium and in good condition. It has a 998cc Mini A series engine and MK1 gearbox, original 10Ē Mini Cooper S wheels (worth £250 alone) with 4 new tyres, Corbeau bucket seats, very comfortable and in good condition, tow bar and socket (working last time I used it). MOT till May 09, TAX exempt.

It is mechanically sound, the vinyl roof needs replacing but is still usable. It has a spare vinyl roof which is in much better condition but has few windows. The last MOT had advisory welding required on the rear sub frame, as with any mini the sub frame is a replaceable part.

The handling is great and itís lighter than a mini which makes it very nippy. Classic insurance is cheap, itís very fuel efficient and parts are also cheap and easily available. Scamp draws a lot of friendly attention and Iím sure you will be the only person you know who has one!

This car was built by my uncle and has remained in the family all its life. I have owned it for 14 years and have really enjoyed driving and maintaining it. I now have plans to leave the country and itís time to move on! It was difficult to put a price on this car, itís like non other and an absolute classic. I really want it to go to somebody who will value and look after it.

Itís for sale in Bristol at £1,500 ono.

Some nice touches there. Note the period details such as the dynamo and the foot-operated dipswitch. I'd guess it has a floor-mounted starter button too.

Wish mine was in such good nick!

I have just read the words again and it was not made from a Mandry Kit - I wonder what it says on the V5 - if it says Scamp I doubt that anyone will challenge it being a called Scamp after 40 years? It would be great to have it on our Newark Classic Kitcar Stand - 1969 - 2009 40 years of the Scamp?????

"Built on Scamp designs, not from the kit" but I'd guess from authentic parts. Nobody would go to the trouble of reproducing those front wings with their gutters and side louvres, for example. A Mandry prototype, perhaps?

Incidentally the DVLA has it registered as a Morris, purple with an 850 engine.
