Hello fellow Scampers,
As you are aware of by Charlies post, we had a look at a off-roading site.
It is something ALL YOU LOT should think about? I know for some of you its further than you would like to travel, but we all dont live close to each other do we?
The off-roading site has plently of coarses hard or kind to your Scamp.
Theres a new campsite just a mile away with kiddies play ground showers and shop, the owners said we more than welcome. I have been told there are plently of green lanes around there so we could have a day off-roading and a day green laning? I dont know what the costs are hiring the off-roading site at this time but,I know the camping id £7 per night.
I am not saying lets not have Stourport, but if you put the cost of Stourport and the loo hire together whats the true cost?
What do you lot think about it?
"Martin" do you think the club should support this event?
I know I am allways moaning about this, but effort by members is what makes a club..isnt it...

Rick.

We'll give it a go Rick, but will more than likely be in the Jimny.............. Reg has started making drastic changes to his Monster, so it won't be on the road for a long time.
And it looks a very Jimny safe place, by that I don't mean they're no good off-road they're effin brilliant! I mean that the paintwork won't get scratched up. Yes, I'm a bit gay when it comes to my Jimbob Embarassed

IMO Stourport has been an absolute bargain in the past, I mean £15 pound per car for a long bank holiday weekend's camping & off-roading - Even at 15 quid a day we'd still go! I love you

We'll give it a go Rick,

It's good to try somewhere different....

Agreed.....

Last years Stourport was really good especially the weather.....after all of the wind and rain of last years season.

As a relative newcomer....I'd still like to explore Stourport......the camping is basic, but we have the freedom of the site and there is quite a bit in the local area.

Can we have both venues ? Different times of the year....

Re Greetham Off-roading site? Empty Greetham a New Site....Hmmm

Post  GT3Rob Mon Jan 19, 2009 6:47 pm

Hi there having disscussed this with the good folk around our table on the Christmas meal i thought i,d put my thoughts down about the so called "New Site". The person that runs the site is the partner to the chap that fitted the Ford td in my scamp. This came about having shown her the antics Scamps can and do get up too, ON and Off road, With or without 200 bhp to me it matters Not what we have so long as we ALL enjoy our much loved cars!. So onto the site firstly it is a training ground and in No way anywhere like Stourport! Whilst taking into account the fact it is a training site for 4x4,s it isnt a alternative in my eyes. I get the impressing things may be a lot stricter in what we can and cant do. Take a big field on a hill and one chap in a JCB and there you have it a few troughs to drive in, a seesaw if you can get suitable clearance taking the 2wd Scamps into the fold and that ladies and gentlemen is it. So even though Ive tried to locate another site i feel its not going to be Enough. (I for one could play at Stourport all weekend and beyond. i feel we could have a day doing a bit of driving off the site, maybe Some one knows the area around Stourport for a day out) Try pricing a pay and play site these days £££s. The other year i sugested an Auto trial type event but that fell on deaf ears. A trip on a separate event to Gaydon heritage centre ive not been for 10yrs or more as it has different owners. The Imperial war museum ive been loads of times but you always see new things. Lets organise watching a hillclimb. Run what ya brung for those speed freaks amongst us at Santa Pod, Avon park etc. As a club Tit for Tat i Dont Need, Camaraderie with like minded Scampers i Cant get enough of. TTFN. 4X4Rob.

Rob,
I think you're onto something!
Seeing as I have watched all of one Classic Trial, I feel that I am now an expert. Re Greetham Off-roading site? Icon_biggrin

So, if we go to Stourport this year what about a trials course? We used to do it back in the days when I used to visit the site regularly and it was a lot of fun. The only thing I worry about is insurance, so if we’re covered as a Club and that cover extends to any "organisers", I’m willing to volunteer, along with some "pressed" men to organise a trials course specifically for Scamps. We used to do it back in the days when I used to visit the site regularly and it was a lot of fun.
So….?
Gaydon and Duxford are both top places to visit too…I’m a "regular" at both, but would be more than happy to go again…and again…. If there’s a club outing.
Cheers, Jono

All we need for a trial is a load of garden canes about 3 foot long ( that's 1 metre to all you young'ns on here) and then some way to mark each gate on the right ( or is it the left?) hand cane, starting with 10 and going down to 1. All the gate markers I have seen have been a piece of bright yellow lorry tarp folded in half and then sewn down 2 sides with the number done in black marker pen.

I think 4 sections should be enough as you could run them backwards to give a total of 8 sections with the minimum amount of hassle.

Five marshalls should be enough to cover 10 gates and some score cards would need printing up.

Looks like I might regret divulging this info Laughing

Re Greetham Off-roading site? Empty Trials at Stourport.

Post  GT3Rob Wed Jan 21, 2009 6:12 pm

Thanks for your replies some years ago i took part in one run by Loughborough car club in my (dont laugh) Skoda estelle of which there were 10 cars and i came 8th not too bad, till it boiled its head off thanks to a young and foolish Nigel Dodds (tff) you know this man dont you James!. Still bloody good fun. Should i take a propshaft off and run road tyres as i dont want too play unfairly?. I did a trial at the mini owners club in Jaynes mini 1000 hl.we had to unhook a steering wheel off a post and hook it on another further up the course. We could then do the test say a with a bin lid on the bonnet and a football in it or blindfold the driver may improve some peoples driving Laughing all food for thought. As i said 2yrs ago (the year of that slipping clutch saga trying to extract a certain green 6 wheel submarine from the Bog of Eternal Stench) i had with me canes, cards and a roll of barrier tape maybe this year COULD WE SET ASIDE A PLAN FOR AT LEAST HALF A DAY with some kind of organisation. not sure if we are allowed cant we do said trial with a few slopes nothing too dangerous up near trig point or on the flat in base camp? Well i look forward to all of you committed members repling with a view to keeping this club alive.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz maybe your still in Hibernation DUE TO THE COLD SNAP. Shocked

All good ideas.....

Maybe the weekend needs to have a few "events" but with still plenty of free time for off roading. Very Happy

The events should be optional though.......

I think we missed a trick - Bewley Beer Festival etc. and this year I will have to take the kids to the fun fair Neutral and the river side park.

Re Greetham Off-roading site? Empty Auto test

Post  tard Thu Jan 22, 2009 10:00 pm

My first experience of scamping was the lincs off road auto test at bainland.

Metro Micks scamp (bonkers) did each track three times, with Mick, Adam and myself at the wheel. Great fun and we beat the landys,
If I remember our resident rally driver won. The landys didn't use the handbrake to compensate for lack of steering lock!!!

That's right James passengered with me, I dropped 3 or 4 points can't remember exactly...... Then I passengered with James and we used the handbrake on a tight uphill left turn (which was where I dropped my points)........

I remember the landy owners not being too impressed, funny we've not been invited back by them???? Laughing
