Good Morning Folks,

I just thought I'd say hello as I've recently joined the forum. I'm in my 40's, recently retired from the RAF after a lifetime fixing aircraft as a Mechanical Technician. I now look after my 22 month old daughter full time and she is keeping me VERY busy! My wife goes out to earn the pennies and I look after our modest budget.
I'm a bit of a car fan, having owned 60-odd over the years. I first looked at Scamps when I was about 16/17, but so far they've evaded me. I'd like to buy one to do up and have specific ideas of what it'd look like when done. I've always liked cars that are "minimal", so I'm thinking cut down screen, no roof, 13" minilights, stone guards on the headlamps. I'm not bothered whether it's ratty on the outside, because there's the option to tart it up later.
There's no enthusiasm from the other half, but she knows to stand aside if the force is strong. That said, I'm squirrelling away the odd tenner here and there to add to the pot, but I want to have a total budget of £500 to buy a car. So from that budget you can definitely see I'll be buying something a bit, er, needy.

In buying a Scamp I hope to be able to add to my skill set, and having done a couple of courses on welding (gas, tig and mig) and metalworking (Contour Autocraft in Peterborough) and lots of stuff fixing planes over 23 years, I reckon i can get over my fear of electrical circuits!

Anyway, time to stop banging on and I'll keep scouring eBay and the classifieds.

Cheers,
Kurt
North Lincs.

Welcome to another ex member of Crab Air
Mind you, get some time in, i did 30 years man and boy as original Rigger trade mainly at Brize.

I started off looking for a Mini Moke, but when i realised that i had to add a zero onto the end of my budget i settled for a Scamp.

I wish now that i had done a welding course instead of the plumbing couse that i did for resettlement.

Best of luck in your hunt.

Haha, Hello Rob! I never thought I'd be receiving banter so soon, but brilliant! I PVR'd to look after my girl. I did RAF Lincolnshire quite comprehensively but also 2 tours at Brize (216, and Base Hangar).

I too have liked Mokes for a long time but like you I think they're too rich for me.

I hope to meet some of you when I get out there a bit, clubs are all about getting out and about.
