Head gasket- which way is up? Empty Head gasket- which way is up?

Post  jonrev Sat Nov 15, 2014 9:16 am

Bought a head gasket from Minispares which has one copper side and one silver side. It has no markings to show 'front' or 'top' which I've always found on gaskets before.
Been searching all the Mini forums and tech advice sites and am now even less sure which way is up than I was to start. I assumed it was copper side up but have found statements that it is 'Copper side', 'Silver side' and 'It doesn't matter' in about equal numbers?
Any of you guys have the definitive answer?

Thanks
