We've still got some left, especially where it's been piled up. Roads are mostly clear.

Forecast keeps changing for us. If we do get more, I'm glad I'm picking up my new 4x4 today! Very Happy

Post  lin and tony Sat Dec 18, 2010 2:56 pm

Well,- just south of Rob near Kidderminster, it's been snowing all day. Now got about 6inches - and this is Lin, not Tony, measuring! (Gents, I know what your idea of 6" is - and most of the time it is not 6"!!!!)

Nic went to work this morning - out to the donkey rescue in the middle of nowhere - no probs getting there but is now stuck trying to get home - cars stopped in front of her so can't go.
We went down into the village (In the Paj) and there was Mr Plod trying to get up the hill between us and the village. His mate was out gritting the road and scraping the snow and he backed down the hill to try again. We did our shopping in the village then started back up the hill - and he was still there (5 series BMW) so, being Mr helpful, we stopped and asked if he wanted a tow. Strangely enough, he never comented on the fact that it is illegal to tow without a solid bar (which we didn't have with us!) Tony can't stop laughing about it!!! Perhaps we won't be selling the Paj this winter!
OK, off to see if we can find anyone to pull out of the hedge! Twisted Evil

Happy Christmas one and all!!!!! santa rendeer

Wohoo, finally got some snow in brum.

Cleared 6" of snow off the drive, took the door trim off the golf to put the window back in, sorted walle's brake failure out....... drive1

Took walle out for a play, (ln the lanes by mike &wendy's) 2hrs later I'm nearly frozen into a block of ice, but I've got a very big grin !!!

Nice to have all the landrovers flash their lights & wave at you as you overtake.

Just need a heater now, (3d modelled up, pending parts).

Merry christmas...

Neil

How you snowing? - Page 2 Empty Illegal to tow with a rope?????????

Post  mikescamp Sun Dec 19, 2010 8:05 pm

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker dated 2008
It's not illegal. This is from the Police National Legal Database:

"When the vehicles are attached solely by a rope or chain, the maximum distance allowed between the vehicles is 4.5 metres.

If the distance between the two vehicles exceeds 1.5 metres then the rope or chain must be made clearly visible within a reasonable distance from either side to other road users. This is usually done by tying a coloured flapping cloth in the middle of the rope or chain.

The person in the broken down vehicle must be a qualified driver as he is actually driving the vehicle. A further point is that if it is dark then the broken down vehicle must have its lights on as it would under normal circumstances."

Note: Vehicles are only to be towed on motorways, for the minimum distance necessary, to reach a place of safety where recovery may be effected by a recovery vehicle.
3 years ago Report Abuse 4 people rated this as good
Asker's Rating: Asker's Comment: after a few people telling me it is illegal to use a tow rope i emailed the police. the response i got is "we are not aware of any change in legislation regarding using

I Keep a rope and a bar in the 407 but not heard that its illegal to tow with a rope
even the cops aren't sure !!!!!!!!!!see below

Interesting debates about legalities of tow ropes. I had heard that you had to have a solid bar now, but it certainly doesn't look black and white.
Well, I hate being towed on a solid bar let alone a tow rope so I think we will stick to the bar!

And - as for the snow - first time this year we actually have any worth speaking about and I have to congratulate our local council on doing.... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the roads.. The Pajero has certainly come into its own! Been good fun out and about. For last two days every other vehicle on the road was a 4X4 - and the shops in town have been SOOOOOOO quiet! Very Happy

Well, so far today; Whitwick 4" of snow. Derby 2" (of that) roads clear except Office park at prior Park. Nothing much to speak of in Nottingham or Gratham and 4" just north of Stamford. The Lorries are doing a lovely job of polishing the access road to our office. Rolling Eyes

And it's Christmas and ALL the usual occational drivers (OAPs and born again Christians) are out cluttering up the roads trying to kill the rest of us!
