Just a few ideas to try:

  1. You say you have power. Typically there are two power connections, one permanent (purple wire) and one from the ignition circuit (green wire), unless your radio is wired to be available full time in which case they will both be supplied from the purple wire. Are they both live?
  2. Try a CD/cassette: does this operate as expected, i.e. track display running or tape moving? This will show if the problem's with the power or just the audio side.
  3. Are the speakers functional? Hang a 1.5v battery on the speaker leads (NOT while connected to the radio!) and check they crackle. This only puts about 1/2 watt of power into the speaker BTW so won't harm them.
  4. Check all the connectors for loose or broken wires. If you have a detachable front panel, clean the contacts and make sure it's securely home.
  5. Does the radio still work in other car? If not, you may have a short in the speaker circuit which has damaged something.

Sometimes you can check voltages with a voltmeter and they will show a good 12 volts, then you put a load on it and a bad connection in the wiring goes open circuit.A good piece of advice is put a small wattage bulb accross the supply to make sure that you do not have any high resistance in the line(bad connection). If you put one side of the bulb to a good known earth and the other to both of the supplies individually the bulb should light up.If you have both of these and a good earth to the radio(not the common earth to the speakers)then the set should work. Also check to see if your radio is individually fused, some have a fuse in the back of them.

The problem could just be multiple dodgy connections somewhere, so that when you test any one of them the fault moves somewhere else. This can be a right [deleted] to find. How old is your Scamp? More to the point, how old is the wiring?
